I just reviewed film of this fight, and it should be noted that referee Isidro Rodriguez was banned for life following some serious chicanery in round 2 as follows:
Gonzalez knocks Coggi down at about 1:30 of round 2.
Referee gives a slow count and Coggi barely rises out on his feet.
Gonzalez traps Coggi in corner and starts to hammer him with right hands.
Referee apparently stops the fight, but instead just gives Coggi a 30 second rest with no count.
Coggi is staggering along the ropes so bad that he almost falls out of the ring, but his trainer catches him while referee leads Gonzalez to a nuetral corner.
Coggi's trainer is actually holding him up by his trunks in the corner EVEN AFTER THE FIGHT IS RESTARTED!!!!!
The trainer ACTUALLY BLOCKS ONE PUNCH HIMSELF REACHING INTO THE RING, with his other arm around Coggi to protect him!!!!!!
Then with 20 seconds left in the round, with Coggi about to get knocked out, the referee just stops the round.
Coggi is seated and the rest period begins.
Coggi eventually recovers to TKO Gonzalez in round 7.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!
Coggi gets almost a minute to rest DURING ROUND 2 to save his title!!!!
This was a huge controversy and should be mentioned in the records of the principals.
