Claude Abrams?

Post by alexpaterson »

I've heard he has stepped down as editor of Boxing News
Can anyone shine any light on this?

Danny Flexen confirmed this on ESB. He said Tris Dixon is taking over. No reason given for Claudes departure.

Shame Abrahams was a brilliant editor and his predictions were amazing.

Good luck to Dixon in his new post

I did say on ESB that Claude left to travel and spend more time with his family. he felt just after the centenary was the perfect time. and its ABRAMS, not ABRAHAMS, so many people get it wrong lol

I for one have enjoyd his time as the editor of boxing news, but I can understand where he is coming from when he says that they driving & train journeys have eventually ground him down & he wants to spend more time with his family.
Good luck to Tris.

I met Claude a few times an the guy seemed a proper gent to me, Knew the game inside out as well, The guys predictions were somethin else at times!! I wish him well and hope boxing news continues with it's amount of quality!! I think Tris is an ideal replacement and has obviously known this was coming for some time so will have been prepared!! Good luck to all the staff at Boxing News, I've been reading for over 10 years now and have always enjoyed my friday when picking it up.. :TU:

Genuinely surprising and a genuine loss to boxing, but I respect Claude's decision and wish him well, as I do the lads who will take over BN

Let's here is for Claude Abrams!

Post by Rocky Balboa »

Claude has been a massive part of Boxing News & a great asset to the publication! For me, he's one of the very finest Boxing writers out there, maybe THE finest atm. Like Abrams said himself, all good things do come to an end, but I am some-what sad he has stepped down!

Claude has always had strong enthusiasm for the sport, for his job & for Boxing News! Taking this into consideration & the fact that he has earned his living by performing a job he loves, big respect must go out to Claude! Its similar to boxer retiring while he is at the peak of his powers.

My brother phoned me earlier today & told me Claude has stepped down! I was quite surprised, even a bit shocked, but if Claude feels its time to move on, then I wish nothing but the very best! I hope he get the quality time he has been looking for with his family.

One thing from this stands out: Claude will not be covering Mayweather vs Pacquiao!

Only because he always picked the favorites  True though...never been his biggest fan, thought he showed Harry Mullan disrespect when they retired him early & Claude grabbed the vacant spot, giving him a pisspoor "send off" with his first editorial. ( hinting at Harry's "lifestyle" problems, which was neither the time nor place )

And too much Frank's boy, never even hinting at any criticism of his fight bills and endless WBU/WBO mismatches, he started off working for Frank, and never seemed to shake it off.

Nothing personal though, seemed a nice enough guy, and did know the sport no doubt about that, so good luck to him.
Obviously pushed there I'd guess, surely no way he'd leave under his own steam, as he seemed to genuinley love, and I mean really love, the job.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this. In his role he was the torch-bearer for boxing fans and the reality is that he bottled it on this particular issue on numerous occasions.

He is good, but Bob Mee is undoubtedly better, I wish he had a more prominent role within BN

Maybe he needs the break, when I seen him on TV the man looked ill, good look in whatever avenue you eventually take.

His articles were always a good read and some weeks very close to the knuckle.

I have been reading BN for probably about 10 years now so i've always had Claude as the editor. I think he has been great and i'm hoping the magazine doesn't change too much without him. Who knows, one day he may return, he can't be that old.
