boxing needs to bring in wwe style retirement fights so the fighter signs a contract saying they will never fight again if they lose!

Antons, whats with the Green cheated/scripted shitt?

As a boxing/sporting country we should be proud not tearing away at an impressive victory.

Australia is proud; this is just sour grapes from Jones, who required TWO WEEKS to come up with a straw to grasp in an attempt to extend his career.

Fair, i understand he posted jones statement, but i read every thread and post. I think Antons statements that it was a scripted fight in another thread is what i'm referring to.

whats funny about this is he started making these claims after he left Australia, not immediately after the fight. All he is really saying is that he is not retiring

Danny 'Wanker' Weidler came up with a story about this after the fight. One of Mundine's people made a noise about it but the authorities found everything in order.

Roy cannot stand to lose. If he keeps fighting main events he should get used to it.

They traveled together hand in hand promoting the show, then before it was all over in 2 minutes they supposedly played mind games for 30 minutes over wrappings & gloves, and you expect me to believe it was honest business??

A frigging scam if there ever was one IMO

This would have to rate up there with being the biggest crock of shite you have ever posted. And you have delivered some doozies!

How do YOU know they travelled together "Hand in hand", were you present at any of those events to see the friction between the two camps, backstage? You truly rely on a lot of supposition these days don't you?

Danny Green does not throw fights. That is the only way Jones would beat him.

Why would Jones have thrown the fight anyway? The loss cost Roy a ten million dollar fight with Hopkins. He is damaged goods.

Funnily enough, a few fighters I have spoken to think Roy took an easy out. I called it at the time, and Green mentioned it in his post fight interview...why did Roy come out cold, not warmed up, not sweating and in the ring waiting for the bell, he just stood there for five or ten minutes doing nothing. For nothing else...Roy was not ready to fight.

As for these claims by Roy - um Roy, you tested positive for steroids. You shouldn't be accusing anyone of cheating.

As for NSW bidding & backing the show??
Had NSW thrown as much as a cent into it, as sure as there's tomorrow, the opposition, given NSW's financial position, would've made a song & dance out of it.

It was a bit of dribble generated by WA Premier Barnett on 6PR on Nov 25 @ 9.30 am in a very short interview by Simon Beaumont.

His comment was along these lines; “ It was not a mistake for WA not to bid for the fight as boxing is a well funded, well profiled sport, therefore, felt the government shouldn't put taxpayer's money into it. I would prefer to put funding into helping sport around WA in the long term”.

As for Anton being overly pessimistic about how these "shows" operate - I'l just say that he has been around the game long enough to know that not everything is above board in this caper. Not much at all.

I believe little I read, but i doubt a report like this would be far off the mark. It isn't what I thought, But it isn't "a cent" either...........

Green camp comes out swinging at Government BEN SPENCER and JONATHAN COOK, The West Australian
December 4, 2009, 2:45 am

Boxing champion Danny Green's camp launched a scathing attack on the WA Government yesterday amid revelations Wednesday night's historic bout had been almost six times more valuable to the NSW economy than a taxpayer-funded music festival held in Perth two months ago.

While the world champion would not rule out bringing a mega-fight to his hometown, Green's management cited a lack of interest from Eventscorp, a division of Tourism WA, for not having Wednesday's bout in front of the 36-year-old's parochial WA fans.

Green's win over boxing legend Roy Jones Jr injected more than $5 million into the Sydney economy and provided worldwide exposure for the harbour city.

The fight's pub and hotel audience on Foxtel's Main Event channel fell just short of the record set for Green's 2006 fight with Anthony Mundine.

Premier Colin Barnett congratulated Green on his win but said boxing did not deserve taxpayer funding and it was unlikely the Government or Eventscorp would chase a future Green bout.

A spokesman for Events NSW, a NSW Government agency, said about 5000 people had arrived from interstate and overseas for the fight, including about 2500 West Australians.

The West Australian understands Events NSW paid $250,000 to secure the fight, with the economic impact providing a return of $20 for every dollar spent.

Eventscorp spent $800,000 on the One Movement festival at the Esplanade in October. Before the event, Tourism Minister Liz Constable estimated a return of $2.7 million for the WA economy, or $3.38 for every dollar spent.

The Events NSW spokesman said the economic return for the Green fight was a phenomenal result and it would have no hesitation in attempting to secure future fights involving the West Australian.

Wayne Loxley, Green's manager, said the fight should have been in Perth but Green Machine Boxing had been knocked back repeatedly by Eventscorp.

The lack of interest defied logic. Green said he would love to stage his next fight in Perth.

"But the reception I got here in my second home town Sydney was amazing," he said.

An Eventscorp spokesman said the agency had believed it would have been difficult for a boxing match to deliver the tourism outcomes it required.

Eventscorp would be happy to hold discussions with Green in relation to future bouts.

Shadow tourism minister Ljiljanna Ravlich said the fight was clearly a missed opportunity and the Government had failed repeatedly to secure big-ticket events, to the State's detriment.

He needs a new calculator.......it was 2501....He missed lil' fella Ben K

The ring had barely been pulled down & the cleaners probably havent cleaned the joint, yet the Events NSW spokesman has all the facts & figures.........I love it!

Bet if I called him today, he wouldn't be able to tell me when the fight took place

My understanding was Green Machine Prom wanted about $200 000 from the WA Govt to stage the fight in Perth and were told in no uncertain terms they would not be getting a cent. The NSW Govt jumped and had a big win financially. The WA govt is so backward, it will on one hand spend a sh.tload putting together a concert no one in WA, never mind Australia, is interested in but wont fork out for an international sporting event such as Green v RJJ or Bhop.
I am happy to pay the money to fly to Sydney and watch Greeny, especially in a venue such as Acer (even if the bourbon was cough syrup). As mush as I would like to see Green fight in Perth again I wont hold my breath. As for the figures being thrown around about numbers flying from Perth, I would say 2500 was very conservative !!!

Precisely. Unless somebody, for some reason, could better what Jones stood to earn for the Hopkins fight, then it's nonsense. Even then, it would have to be more than the 10 mil cos Jones would factor in future earnings if he beat Hopkins, and also how much his earning power would suffer from a KO1 loss to Green - the worst possible result for any boxer.
