boltonkings wrote:just to clarify to all involved this was by no means a " slagg of paul smith" forum, it was simply a opinions on paul smith, as i would have liked to see weather or not people agreed on my take on his fights so far and how he has done/future prospects ect,it was also no attack on his personality as by judging on previous post he is obviously a quality lad with his head screwed on,alot of my opinion on him not doing as much as he possibly could derived from commentators saying it but the actual fact behind this post was more of a eyebrow raiser as to the commentators and fans supremely overbilling him than paul himself doing anything of the sort, as i would have hoped people who have done would come out and show me fights he may have been in which would prove the general point of this thread wrong. To sum up Appologys if this thread has caused any undue offense
Not at all mate - this is what this place is all about. Different opinions, expressed reasonably! Good thread.

A fight isn't all about jabs is it being honest? Styles make fights, ours didn't gel simple. It was scrappy and he was awkward and strong but the decision was correct and the result is all that mattered to me in a fight of that caliber, i.e local derby first title etc. I was expecting him to be on the back foot from the off, he wasn't, so I stuck to my boxing which I knew was better. I switched off in the middle rounds with the cut for reasons above, massive fight and a lot at stake, didn't wanna get stopped on a cut.

With regards to my hype and being over-rated, I've never once said that I'm going to be or that I am world class. I may be but who knows, time will tell. I've never said I'm going to be undisputed world champion or even a world champion, I've always said I'd LOVE TO BE and I will give it my best and see what happens. :TU:

So the hype and expectations are not my fault and they haven't come from me.

I have my fans and I really appreciate it, The Contender was great for my profile and maybe that's where some of the hype comes from, I personally don't see it as I see myself at the level I am at for now. People who know me will tell you I'm modest and realistic.... I read on here once that I was a miserable barstard! I come across that way when I fight but most of the time I'm either never happy with the performance or It's just a 6 or 8 rounder and not to be carried away with. I'm not one to get excited at beating a journeyman with all due respect.
Someone did post at the time that I "take a serious job seriously" and that sums it up I think.
I'm proud being British Champion and I have worked for that since I was 9 years old. I would love to clean up domestically and go on to the world scene, God willing that will happen. There's worse fighters than me that have won world titles.... I think   :box: :DDD

I rarely post on these forums as the small minority just try to wind people up and such, but I do enjoy reading them and 90% of the people are really knowledgeable. But thanks for the comments anyway, good and bad they all get taken on board. Thanks again for the support to the people that do, all the very best to Boxrec for Christmas and a happy and healthy 2010 :TU:

smith aint a natural smiler & he looks akward doing so!!bit cringey when he does :DDD

i rate smith & think his best weight is middle if he has aspirations of winning a world title,he can allways move up to 12 or 12-7 later on as he probably has another6-7 years to do somthing.why all this crack on???whats the rush. saying quigley dont get him up or he's so much better, it's fights like this that mould smith,i think he got a rude awakening & had to use his boxing brain for a change, which wasnt on the agenda.
i was dissapointed with the fight as smith said to quigley stand & meet me rather then go in bouncer mode now, which had me in stitches.
smith found quigley stronger & didnt have the tear up as promised  this is before the cut.
id like to see a return, they know each other now & what they need to do.so if your reading paul i thought you was a fighter of honour, you have allways been willing to challenges & angry fighters at middle didnt let you do that, now your doing the same, beat quigley clear put your stamp on that british & send quig to the ufc.

Hopefully Smigga will start living the boxing life now he is champion and we will see some quality fights Bendall and Cover fight stay in my mind as "weak moments" full credit to allegedly for getting him there.

I think he has been the living the boxing life since he was about 8 lad!. People are forgetting that Smigga is still young (26/27) so still has the best years of career to come. And his attitude is top-class and he has got good skills. Looking forward to the fight against Dodson though!!!

Hey Paul- Hope all is well Since you keep changing them does this mean the 6 prints I bought off you in 05 and currently have framed in my house my Kincaid is a nice companion piece next to the old "Sunset" in my family room are collectors items, or what? All my bfoot friends can vouch that my house, to my wife and ex-wifes chagrin nothing against your talent is literally a Paul Smith gallery.

Personally I think Paul is a very good domestic class boxer - I honestly do not believe he will win titles beyond that.

Lets be serious here - there are thousands of boxers who would give their right hand to get their hands on the coveted Lonsdale Belt and I see nothing wrong in stating or giving an opinion that I do not think a boxer will go beyond domestic titles - he is pretty dam good to get that far.

Recent victories have not impressed me at all - for example - Smith got a win against Ciaran Healy over 6 rounds - James Degale beat him in a round. The loss against Steve Bendall is another. If Smith was going to go beyond the domestic scene then his "victory" against Quigley would have been more convincing - and I agree with anyone who states Quigley is in the wrong weight category in the first place.

spud, the loss to bendall was a disgrace and smith was nowhere near his best and against healy he was coming back from a long lay off, o think he's got the potential to be european champ and I think he could beat stiegletz the wbo champion

Sorry Pal!!!

Disagree!!!

Smigga is a good boxer - a very good boxer - but european he is not and I am sorry he is certainly no where near world class.

Keep things real Smigga is the top side of the domestic scene and there are a couple domestic standard boxers who will give him a good fight.

Totally disagree Spud. I've always thought Paul has skills and talent to burn but sometimes just doesn't put it together which is incredibly frustrating for his fans, of which I am a big one.

Bloody Hell Smoggie!!! (McNeilly)

First of all are you still hurting from the total and utter humilation your football suffered yesterday!!!

Secondly - I am going to state again Smigga is a very good boxer - but with me included we often way over rate our boxers - perhaps through ignorance  - however I am sorry please tell me where and when Smigga proved his European credentials beyond any reasonable doubt??
