And what? ...Are you Paul? Or maybe a fan of his with the name on here 'scrap'. As Paul Ryan went with the name 'Scrap Iron'.
Anyway...Bit tastless coming saying that. Cant see that happening but there you go.....Or maybe like a good few fighters, didn't turn his best on in sparring with certain people.
Basicly Adrian was a bit of a Bully in the gym. Paul said to me He Adrian asked Him to spar, I said no Him being 10 stone I didnt fancy it with his track record. Plus He wouldnt spar Corny or the other lads his size. Anyway they did and Paul took Him to the cleaners, came back the following day and got the same treatment.

Gym Champions meaning some fighters look the real part in the gym and could look brilliant againts a genuine Champion where the genuine Champion would save his top performances for the real ring

recall his fight with john mbosco and he lookd great. recall calzaghe-delaney around the same time and i felt that dodson was by far the better talent. then again i didn't know what the eff i was watching with calzaghe, as i didn't know you were allowed to punch like that. obviously, what different careers they went on to have, and what different levels of toughness and punch resistence in their overall careers. yet i always like to rate dodson on potential, as opposed to the way he turned out.
dodson really had a go of it vs winky wright. wright's sides were red from the body shots, i recall. dodson took on a quality champ and went for it. but dodson was far too inexprienced, punched himself out on that impossible to breach guard and got picked off for a long painful beating. it might have been a bad move, with winky considered a light puncher.
It was Winkys heavy southpaw jab that done it - all he had to do was keep pumping it into Dodsons face until the fight was mercifully called off.
Dodson once sparred Adam Smith the Sky Sports Presenter - it was the first time Smith had ever sparred and Dodson bullied him and threw him around like a rag doll.

Paul Ryan could produce in the real ring as well, (there's footage of Ryan sparring Del Bryan on youtube).

Dodson always reminded me of Ronnie Harris, a dangerous American southpaw who lacked a plan B if an opponent failed to offer a target. Consequently, Dodson was outclassed by Wright and Harris given a boxing lesson by Hugo Corro.
I also dont know how the weight making for the Olympics affected him longer term. They made him boil down to welter as Robin Reid was fighting at Light Middle and I know that experience can affect fighters in the long term. I dont think that experience helped Gavin either.
He often ran out of Gas, or lost concentration as a pro so I dont know if he was one of these guys who really put on weight between fights.
Adrian Dodson! There's a blast from the past. He got a lot of media attention as an amateur with his exotic background and eye-catching style. I remember him fighting Peter Waudby in the ABA finals one year, Adrian outclassed him with his speed and power. I, like many people, expected great things of him in the pro ranks and, to be fair, he could look great when he was in full flow. Maybe he just wasn't as good at soaking it up and coming back for more. I remember he fought Winky, Winky took him apart round by round, I was really surprised.
The last I heard of Dodson he was going to take part in one of the Prizefighters, he didn't in the end (don't know why).

Yes, that was him
Ahh yes remember him, with the American twang, brilliant amateur very classy fighter, but Looked shite against Winky Wright though! he seemed like he lost all his ability's in that fight? Maybe just Winky was just too good, made Adrian look mediocre which he wasn't, that night?
Dodson was the dictionary definition of the word Enigma. Looked an absolute million dollars at European level. His run from Honeyghun to Wright, whilst hardly a whose who of boxing - he looked absolutely electric.
I remember boxing monthly sitting on the fence in a preview with Wright - that's how good Dodson was looking at the lower level. Then he fell apart, sometimes looking like he could build some momentum and then just looking poor at EBU level.
Michael Macguire seems to by the 21st Century equivalent.
