Mitchell beat a one-dimensional banger in Prescott - let's get it right. Prescott was dreadful in his previous fight on ESPN before he smashed Khan. Amir fought a reckless fight and was punished. Mitchell boxed well and showed discipline to expose Prescott for what he is. Arthur is a better all-round fighter than Mitchell, he's made a huge mistake by not taking this fight.
alex arthur would have absolutely no chance of beating mitchell. mitchell would destroy him in 6 rounds. how is arthur better all round then mitchell?? arthur isn't a good boxer. and isn't exactly powerful. mitchell has power..stamina..good chin..and decent boxing skills
No chance at all? Give over. Arthur is a seasoned European campaigner. Mitchell didn't even get round to defending the British title at 9st 4lbs and when he won it he went life and death with Carl Johanneson. Arthur has his limitations but he's a good fighter and he'd give Mitchell a very good argument. As I said previously, Mitchell isn't the new Pernell Whittaker just because he exposed Prescott for being a raw, dynamite fisted plodder.

Arthur has decent power, cracks really well with the left hook to body and head. If he has a weakness his defence is poor and he stands in range too long, all criticisms that could and have been levelled at Mitchell against inferior opposition prior to him outpointing Prescott.

Hi gents,

I think AAA may come to realise he has plataued. He had a lovely run up to world level and came back from the Gomez defeat: his career was littered with titles and he made his way up the ranks. I had no real issue with his world title ranking as far worse have gotten mandatory spots.

However, he does have a HUGELY over-rated opinion of his own place on the world stage; past, present and future.

His Interim title, lack of Guzman-fight, subsequent defence and then losing of title...plus his inactivity, and now weight problems all suggest that.... well, let's hope he enjoyed his run as WBO champ as I don't think he's going to get close to that again - although he may get a title shot on a name-basis, if someone like Khan wanted a good home defence then Arthur would be a brilliant dangerous-on-the-outside yet safe-as-houses kind of defence, and the casual fan would buy into the ex world champ angle they could throw.

It's just Arthur's ability to make a mountain out of a molehill: his winning of the world title and defences were cack, and all the time he said about facing Guzman, Barrera, Barrios etc - but look who he faced instead.

He makes his own hurdles, then cries foul when he trips over them.

I'd get him to Lightweight again and build his confidence up, try to secure a big payday.

"T.M.K"

ps: mind you, it was a silly fight he took recently and it serves him right he lost.....

who said anything about mitchell being pernell whitaker??     i said kev has decent boxing skills :OhYes: mitchell didn't defend his title because he couldn't make weight. where have you been?? on mars? why do you think he is at lightweight?? he was injured for 12 months then came back and couldn't make weight. arthur just lost to a english level fighter. then comes up with bs excuses. a prime arthur would be a good test for kev but not now

yeah but his form has gone west since then in a big way.

just cos he was fairly good don't mean he's still got a chance.

he shouldn't be losing to guys like wright over 8, 10, 12 or 20 rds. :OhYes:

hang on. arthur says his doctor said he has to fight at 140. he loses, dismally. and now FW should line up big, top of the bill fights at 135? vs the likes of kevin mitchell? bollox! at least mitchell won a world title elim, rather than having a title given to him. although we are talking the same promoter here.

i can see arthur's frustration. his career would have been different - he would have had at least one last big fight - if he'd targteed mitchell and murray rather than going for the silly fight up at 140.

arthur had his day in the sun, he had some good euro wins, but i'm sorry but his career never really seemed to take off. his career is spilled milk, IMO. aftre his last defeat, he's not even a big scalp anymore for the top british lightweights.

AA should have left Warren years ago imo, a lot of his problems have been caused through unactivity and also the fact he will not leave Edinburgh to train or spar his chief sparring is usally young amatuer boxers, and he only trains with Terry McCormack cause he's based in Edinburgh, he's left it to late now but I think he could have achieved more than he did.

If I remember, it was an intrim title that got upgraded and some whatnot.

I know, I have always liked Arthur, but the way he goes on you would think he was Ken Buchanan or something.

He had a chance to fight Mitchell and found a reason not to fight.

Nothing is ever perfect, but F rank Warren has given him tremendous backing in the past, so Arthur cant complain there.

Hell even if he was on late, he wouldnt have sold many tickets in geordieland any way.

I think he needs to understand that he is now yesterdays news and doesn't really deserve another chance as he was gifted that WBO crap title and struggled to hang onto it against foster and then blew it against cook,he is now an undercard fighter so will have to accept it or retire.

His record doesn't lie, he was carefully matched after Gomez, and never did have the Gomez rematch which doesn't look good.

His best form appears long gone, but if his cuts are taking time to heal, you can't blame him for not taking Mitchell on.

Alex should have grabbed the chance to fight Mitchell with both hands it was a way straight back in there if he won, and if he lost he wouldnt be in a much worse place than he is now, he's his own worst enemy. I dont see anyway better way back for him.
