I don't trust Schaefer at all but I distrust Bob Arum even more. Don't forget Arum has giving his full backing to Margarito after the plaster wraps incident and also to Julio Chavez Jr who tested positive for Furosemide which is used as a flushing system for steroids. Backing two proven cheats in the space of a few weeks shows he really doesn't care how his boxers get to the top.

You should read a book by the late Jim Brady called Boxing Confidential, there's a chapter on Bob Arum which doesn't show him in a very good light at all. In some ways he seems a lot worse than Don King - at least you know what you're getting with The Teflon Don!

There is no proof he was taking steroids.
He admits to taking Furosemide - which is renowned as being a masking agent.
However he says the banned substance was in a diruretic he had to take before the fight because he was ill.
There should be a decision from the Commission shortly.
The decision may have repercussions for Rhodes and his ranking with the WBC.

Whilst it's easy to criticsise him on a forum, he has seemingly done ok so far for GBP.

When Hatton boxed he was right there and then when Haye was in Germany, again he was right there.

I thought he said he used Furosemide to make the weight for the Rowland fight. You're correct he said he was sick the week before the fight but he took the banned substance after he left hospital to flush excess liquids from his system -Furosemide is used to make people pass urine more frequently and as you said is used as a masking agent for roids. Either way it does look fair dodgy and even if he doesn't take roids he is still cheating by taking the diuretic to make weight.

My understanding was that the hospital shoved loads of fluids in him mate, to sort out the infection.
He clearly knows that this shite flushes fluids away and that's what he said he did.
I'm in no way defending him - in fact its a blow to Rhodes because he would have loved that fight.
However this substance is one thing - use of steroids another.
The rumour mill is already saying this could get shoved under the carpet anyway with a slap on the hand - which of course has nothing to do with Daddy does it ?

The commissions report is in a few weeks so I will look forward to seeing their response. As you said he will get away with a slap on the wrist but you cant' help but feel that if it was a boxer of a lesser standard/name what punishment he would get.
