Absolutely Crazy.

Post by stujones »

Things seem to be going from Bad to worse as far as these "Interim" titles are concenred. We had the once scheduled Junion Witter vs Kelson Pinto fight that was to be for the WBO interim title the night Zab Judah defended the title proper (Hopkins vs Joppy bill).

We are also having Mario Veit making DEFENCES of his WBO interim belt and Calzaghe making defences of his belt proper without any negotiations happening for a rematch.

NOW we have Kermit Crinton vs Steven Martinez for the interim WBO Welterweight bout. However, THE MAIN EVENT ON THE SAME BILL, is Antonio Margarito vs Carlos Baldomir for the WBO Welterweight title proper.

That is rediculous - check out the Fightnews schedule if you don't believe me.

These people are killing boxing with this sort of rubbish. That one of the fighters is called Kermit only adds to the absurdity of the situation.

I don't know if the sanctioning fee's for interim titles are more, but why can't the WBO sanction Crinton vs Martinez as a final eliminator. They will get a fee for that, although as I said I don't know if it is the same figure.

Seems like the winner a final eliminator is better than being an interim champion in actually getting the title shot, as Mario Veit will destify.

If Danny Green meets Mario Veit, would the winner be called the Interim Super Champion?
Last Friday’s David Estrada - Chris Smith bout in Uncasville, CT. on Showtime was for the IBF Welterweight Eliminator for the #2 Spot.
Will Estrada be called the Mandatory Alternate contender? Image

Shame it will never go back to the days of having one champion. I was hoping that US Boxing Commission thing worked out but that fell flat on its face.

We all know it's a joke, but we all know nothing is going to be done about it.
