How good is David Haye ?

Post by FLINT ISLAND »

Ok I admit it - I have underestimated David Haye up until now.

First I thought he was a posing big mouth git - who was going no where - then Carl Thompson beat him and I thought yes I was right all along what a big fraud - just another poser who loved himself - and got found out.

Since then Haye fought for the European title - I didnt think he was good enough to win it - and he won it.

Then he fought Mormeck and I thought he was gonna get painfully stopped in about 4 rounds - but he produced a career best performance to KO Mormeck - that was a bit of a eye opener because I realised Haye was alot better than I thought.

Then he fought Maccarenelli - and I honestly thought he had been ducking Maccarenelli and that Maccarenelli could beat him and KO him - but he destroyed Maccareenelli.

Then I thought he could be in for a rude awakening in Germany against that Valeuv - but he fought a discplined fight and won a WBA Heavyweight title.

So - the guy has proven me wrong - over and over - he is alot better than I gave him credit for.

Now he has got Vitali Klit lined up for 2010 - and I cant see a way how he will win here - and think he gets destroyed.

But he has proven me wrong before.

So how good is this guy ? - what kind of level of fighter is he at compared to other heavyweights of the past ?

haye is very good. self-promoted and he unified the cw division then picked up a hw title in 24 fights i think. has that been done before? i dont think so. he has alot of star quality's he has lightning speed. big power. he is a great athlete. his chin is suspect but he is quite hard to hit. i think he will beat both klitschko's and unify the hw divison. vitali is so slow and robotic. haye will destroy him as long as he doesn't take too many on the chin. wladimir is a more risky fight in my opinion. who ever lands the first power punch will win the fight. haye is great at ducking under the jab and landing the hayemaker right hand over the top. if haye beats em both he should surely go down as a great for unifying both divisions. to those who think haye is a coward (mainly americans) and is scared of the klitschko's are delusional. there isn't alot to be scared of in my opinion. haye has the tools. i wish haye would fight more. i think he will now he is at hw. he will be 1 rich boy if he beats the klits

Really? Barrett, Thompson, Mock, Mormeck, and Fragomeni all hit him cleanly. I don't think he's the defensive wiz that his win over the horrendously slow and limited Valuev would suggest. The fact that you have Haye destroying Vitali after two relativly unimpressive performances against much lesser fighters is harder for me to understand than your giant paragraph.

i said haye is QUITE hard to hit which he clearly is. you can count on both your hands the amount of hard clean punches he has took in his career.. who said anything about him being a defensive wiz??? your making things up. WHEN DID BARRETT HIT HAYE CLEANLY?? WHILST HE WAS ON THE FLOOR?? YES. on the feet he didn't land a punch. haye clearly broke his hand in the 2nd round of the valuev fight. haye is mainly a right handed fighter. he rarely uses his left normally but had to adapt and beat valuev 1 handed :OhYes: and i have haye destroying vitali because haye is lightning fast and has the power. and vitali is slow and robotic and can only throw 2 punches the jab adn the straight right.

He is a good fighter but he is in a dreadful era of heavyweights. I don't think he is good enough to beat either of the Klits. Lewis 10 years ago with destroy today's Haye. Basically he wouldn't be a champ in previous eras and, in my opinion, shouldn't be a current champ as he lost Valuev but that's just me.

What am I making up? All of those fighters hit him cleanly with big punches at one time or another, and Barrett did put Haye down with a punch, just because the referee botched the call does not mean it never happened.

I don't understand how you can criticize Vitali for being a two punch fighter, yet then say that Haye rarley uses his left, that would essentially make him a one handed fighter. Vitali hasn't needed a wide array of punches to outclass all of his opponents bar Lewis, his style isn't flashy but extremely effective. I would rather take a two punch fighter who uses both arms than a fighter who only uses his right hand.

I hear this crap about Haye being a devastating puncher, lightning fast, and a good defensive fighter, but for someone to possess those attributes and lose to Thompson, get decked by Mock and Mormeck, go life and death with Fragomeni, get dropped by Barrett, and then squeak past someone as slow as Valuev, suggests to me that Haye is not as good as you like to think he is. Vitali on the other hand has been facing top 10 heavyweights throughout his entire career and with the exception of an all time great in Lewis, whom he was winning rounds against, has never had issues with any of them. He has also shown one of the best chins in the division, something Haye certainly does not possess.

Therefore I think anyone saying Haye will destroy Vitali is obviously blinded by some type of bias and is ignoring what has actually gone on in the ring.

im blinded??? watch the haye vs barrettt fight again! barrett doesn't hit him!!! haye clearly slips.
you havn't said 1 positive thing about haye. i think your a haye hater quite obviously. vitali is very good at what he does but hasn't fought anybody of haye's calibre bar lewis. also vitali is getting on and is slower then ever. his head movement is poor. my opinion is that haye is way too fast for him.give your opinion don't critisize mine! how can you bring up the carl thompson fight?? haye was a novice who gassed out and got stopped.
i realise why you dislike haye. im pretty sure your that german guy arn't you?? p.s the klits are ukranian :OhYes:

Yes, Barrett did hit him, I have watched it numerous times.

I have said many positive things about David Haye, so obviously you and davidas are unaware of my posting history, let alone my nationality. I am not German and I'm fully aware of the fact that the brothers are Ukrainian as is almost everyone who follows boxing. Besides, would you care to explain why my nationality is relevant?

I think Haye is a talented boxer, good speed and power, and is the next best heavyweight outside the Klitschko's, so I don't understand this "hater" crap your talking about. Going by your standards of what a hater is, you must be a Klitschko hater then if you think Haye will beat them. I'm not denying Haye is good. I guess your just a little sensitive about it because Haye is one of your favorite boxers. Nice picture of him on your you tube account by the way, lots of good fights there. :OhYes:

While I know Haye is talented, I'm also aware of his weaknesses and I think both brothers would beat him and some others in the division would also stand a chance. He has shown nothing to suggest he will destroy a fighter as dominant and durable as Vitali Klitschko. Klitschko has proven his dominance over top fighters over and over again, Haye has not, in fact he has only beaten one top ten heavyweight in his career and didn't look good doing so. Klitschko also took flush power punches from Lennox Lewis and wouldn't go down, so I find it hard to believe Haye would somehow destroy him.

i too think haye would beat either klit , but to say hed destroy them may be a tad over optimistic ,against vitali as that seems the most likely id expect a tough fight with haye possibly having to get off the canvass to stop vitali late on , possibly on a bad cut .

I dont know if Ruiz will beat him. BUT its a good test for sure as we know what John Ruiz is all about. He only got bombed out once in 50 plus fights by David Tua and that was in something like 16 seconds so its a fair conclusion to make that he was caught cold and other than that blip is a durable enough fighter. He has fought Roy Jones and Valuev and Holyfield - so lets see how David Haye handles him will give us a better idea of Hayes heavyweight potential.

I agree though - I think Vitali destorys him - Haye will have to run otherwise he is bombed out early.

I give him a chance against Wlad just because if Haye can nail him - Wlad can panick and come apart as he is mentally weak.

But Wlads jab will be thundering in Hayes face from round 1 and barring any scares will stop Haye with the jab alone in about 5 rounds.

However Haye keeps proving doubters wrong.

And if he can KO both the Klitshko brothers - then he is the best heavyweight since Lennox Lewis.

NOT British heavyweight - I mean ANY heavyweight the World over.

But I just dont share his confidence that he can beat them.
