It's difficult to go past The Professor. Such a wonderful fighter.

It was a sad sight (even for me, as a Sweet Pea fan) to see him reduced to amateur-status against Whitaker that night. I recently re-visited his fight with Chava --- a greenhorn putting forth one hell of an effort. If a rematch had occurred between a (probably still-prime) Sanchez & a more seasoned Nelson a few years after their actual meeting, who knows?

It is pretty much a one-horse race but I'd be interested to see if anyone puts in a compelling argument for the others, or even just discusses the runners-up. Quartey I'm sure is a solid number two and Konadu was well underrated.

While you're flooding the forum, a Portuguese one might be interesting, Oliver --- more competitive than Ghana, at any rate, without a true stand-out candidate.

I still think Quartey beat the Golden Boy. If he had got the nod how much would it have improved is standing?

Great point. That win in itself would have been great for him, as well as leading to further biger fights. Also, without the two big stretches of inactivity in his prime and near-prime he may well have accomplished more than Nelson.

Ike Quartey was good, but Azumah Nelson was great. I cant see Quartey ever achieving as much as Nelson even if he got the nod over De la Hoya
