Jeff Fenech played a handful of Reserve grade games for Parramatta in 1989 off the bench after breaking his hands defending the WBC featherweight title against Villesana. The club gave him permission to act as a second for Jeff Hardy when he beat Dennis Andries for the WBC Light Heavyweight title in the States in June 1989. Mike Tyson was also in Harding's corner and talked Fenech into continuing his boxing career.
Fenech had played junior representative football with Newtown before he boxed. He never trialed for Souths. Mario was not related to him, Fenech in Malta is like Smith in Australia. They are just friends.

Too small. Most of the halfbacks are over 90kgs now. Besides which he would make more money fighting title fights than he would in Rugby League with the salary cap.

Re: Carl Webb
STATE of Origin rivalries are set to explode in the boxing ring next month with Cowboys and Queensland Maroon Carl Webb to take on New South Wales' Scott Lewis.
Webb will make his professional debut as the main undercard on the Anthony Mundine showdown which also features the final of reality TV show The Contender.
Lewis is also a relative newcomer to professional ranks, having fought four times this year for one win and three losses.
He has shown strong recent form with a fourth-round unanimous points decision over Stuart Stokes in Revesby last month.
Former Queensland firebrand Greg Dowling is no stranger to Webb's abilities, having coached him as an assistant to Mal Meninga at Origin level.
He warned that Lewis would have it all to do to stop the Cowboys forward.
''I'd hate to be the one facing (Webb), put it that way, he can handle himself,'' Dowling said. ''I hope he does well, I really do. He's obviously had a history in boxing and he's got the right man in his corner in Billy Johnstone so I hope he makes a success out of it.
''He's tough enough, big enough and I know he can throw a few.
''I'll be watching with eyes wide open just to see. But I'd hate to be the one jumping in the ring because if he lands one on you you are going to feel it.''
Webb is training under Johnstone, in addition to his Cowboys training, in a gruelling schedule certain to have him in optimum condition for fight night.
He is also gaining experience against local boxers.
These have included Mick King, who has won all three of his professional fights including a victory over Shane Tilyard - an opponent who has beaten Lewis.
The fight will be held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on January 11.
Re: Carl Webb
Carl's opposition: Scott Lewis is 1(0)-3(3)-0 and two of those KO losses came in round 1.
An easy night for Carl is expected!

Re: Carl Webb
if carl is even close to as good as the raps on him this will be a very easy night for him. the bloke lewis beat stokes is a natural light heavy and will be at that weight some time this year but was out of condition when he took the fight. stokes had lewis troubled several times but wasnt naturally strong enough to finish him. carl by ko
Re: Carl Webb
NORTH Queensland enforcer Carl Webb knew exactly what to expect when he enlisted sadistic Cowboys trainer Bill Johnstone to prepare him for his pro-boxing debut on January 11.
While his team mates are enjoying a blissful two weeks away from Johnstone's fearsome summer schedule, Webb has been sweating-up a tropical storm at Castle Hill PCYC most afternoons.
He sparred a Townsville-based heavyweight yesterday and there will be at least three more sessions before the 28-year-old travels to Sydney next weekend ahead of his fight against local Scott Lewis (1-3).

Still no opponent on the schedule.
