Mexican Turf War...

Post by Goodnight, Irene »

Who do you fancy?

Twelve rounds of Bantamweight action between Mexico City natives Lupe Pintor & Rafael Marquez? This could be pretty exhilirating stuff.

I'll take Marquez by gory decision with Pintor closing like a locomotive. Lupe didn't really get started until 5 or 6 rounds at the earliest. I think Rafa takes the first eight and Pintor the last four in a great one. I might take Pintor by stoppage if it was 15.

I'm also going with Marquez, & very narrowly, at that. The twelve rounds saves him, as I more or less see it as you do, except closer on the cards.

Maybe the pair who (justifiably) voted for Pintor --- one via decision, the other, inside the distance --- could elaborate?

I think that Pintor would of been able to get him out of there late, the best comparision is for how this fight would go is the Vasquez fights but I think the big difference in this fight is that Pintor is more effecient and accurate with his punches and is not as easily rattled as Vasquez as well as cuts wouldn't be a factor in this fight. This is far from a sure thing considering Pintor's tendency for a slow start but I think he would be able to get enough work done to put Marquez down somewhere in the 10th-12th range.
