Anyway, really enjoyed some of the domestic stuff and we look to have some great prospects coming through.
I actually thought that myself as i wrote it!Unfortunately, its true.I did say i have enjoyed the domestic stuff and the prospects but its a pretty lean time on the world scene for us.Last year(well,2008),we had Calzaghe beating Hopkins,Hatton looking good again(Malignaggi) and Froch in a geniune FOTY contender.I just think we could be going through a transitional period as Calzaghe and Woods have reired and Witter and Hatton are on the way out,Froch is no spring chicken either.Khan looks too fragile to be involved in real "superfights" and while Haye against either Klit would be massive,he is also a massive underdog and has said himself he wants to be out of the sport before he's 31.Hopefully this year we will see the emergence of some of our best youngsters at world level,Cleverly,Brook,Murray and Mitchell are all in with a shout given the chanceIan 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:I'm loving this positive vibemickey1975 wrote:The Fact Froch won shows what a poor year we have had at top level. He lost more rounds than he won,was heavily dropped by a shot fighter and squeezed past(with some help from the judges) a totally unproven challenger.Along with Khan picking up a fraction of the W.B.A title,Haye's second string title and losses for Woods and Witter, its been pretty grim all round. In fact, only Hatton boxed at "elite" level, and we all know what happened there...

The awards aren't run by the forum but the news site...sligobhoy67 wrote:as this is the "British and Irish" forum why were Irish fighters excluded?
so its just a British news site then I take it.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:The awards aren't run by the forum but the news site...sligobhoy67 wrote:as this is the "British and Irish" forum why were Irish fighters excluded?
Almost exclusively, yes. We do some Irish stuff but not a huge amount; Eric Armit is the only writer who has a global remit.sligobhoy67 wrote:so its just a British news site then I take it.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:The awards aren't run by the forum but the news site...sligobhoy67 wrote:as this is the "British and Irish" forum why were Irish fighters excluded?
Fair enough, they are your awards afterall Ian. But the third story in your news section is a story by Ste on two Irish fighters - neither of whom are from Ulster.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Almost exclusively, yes. Ulster stuff was considered for the awards and, of course, Irish boxers and fights could be recognised in the International section.
Yes, I did say we do some stuff...I'd run with more if I got it!sligobhoy67 wrote:

cheers anyway
As you know Ian my modus is promotion of Irish boxing and boxers. I just thought as the British and Irish scene are pretty much a single entity and both are covered in BoxRec news that Irish fighters should have been included and recognised in the awards as well.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Yes, I did say we do some stuff...I'd run with more if I got it!sligobhoy67 wrote:

It is tough, especially when you aren't included in the emailnapoles7 wrote:Again thanks to all the writers who voted, if you didnt make it in time tough.
And I apoligise to Ian for cutting it thin with the results but glad you all enjoyed it.
I liked all the votes except Carl Froch Fighter Of The year as i really dont rate him.
Yep, my fault that, as I emailed you about, Lee. Won't happen again.lacollier883 wrote:It is tough, especially when you aren't included in the emailnapoles7 wrote:Again thanks to all the writers who voted, if you didnt make it in time tough.
