I think Mayo's Michael Sweeney boxes in the US under Tommy Egan/Banner Promotions?

I am pretty sure that sligobhoy67 will have a comprehensive list of US based Irishmen - you could try PM'ing him?

Re: Irish Boxers in the US
Danny O'Connor is an Irish-American as opposed to an Irishman fighting in the US so you can take him off your list.
Same goes for Joe McCreedy and Joe Smith Jnr.

depends on what he is looking for. All qualify for a shot at the Irish title.TerribleTerry wrote:Danny O'Connor is an Irish-American as opposed to an Irishman fighting in the US so you can take him off your list.

Are you looking to match make for a St Patricks Day fight?
Also Jamie Kavanagh is moving to the states in January to join the wild card gym so add him.
I think the Timlin brothers are still both in Boston as is McBride (if he is still fighting)
I'll think of more later

Galway's Simon O'Donnell is in Philly
not sure if Mayo's Henry Coyle is probably back in Chicago
Gerry Grealish, the Timlin brothers and James and Mark Clancy are all in Boston
Bobby Gunn, Danny McDermott and Canada's Logan McGuinness also qualify.

Canadian Matt O'Brien also recently expressed an interest in fighting for an Irish title.

I thought that he was after US based Irish boxers Sligo?sligobhoy67 wrote:Canadian Matt O'Brien also recently expressed an interest in fighting for an Irish title.
Although, as you say, maybe he is just looking for anyone eligible for the Irish title - that is a far wider scope of fighters!!

Re: Irish Boxers in the US
I seen a great programme in the 1990s following Wayne McCollugh and is family going over to the US and him living in his house and training in his garage
He was being trained at the time by Thell Torrence and the late great Eddie Futch.
It showed him doing roadwork in the desert and working out with Torrence and Futch in public gyms and him going down the strip.
It was filmed around the time he was fighting for the WBC title - against tough fighters like Victor Rambinelez.
Like Thell Torence says "Boxing is like going to court - you can prepare as best as you can for whatever may come - but what happens in the ring is what happens - and you have to live with that"

Re: Irish Boxers in the US
well allegedly the story goes that Matt was thrash talkin in the Irish press about Jim's ability, record and prospects and that he should stick to selling posh cars! (obviously he hadnt realised that the Pink Panther had already retired)David Walshe wrote:No please tell, Jim Rock is no push over so you have my full attention comrade,
So as Mr. Rock was working for RTE on the show that Matt was fighting he decided to pay him a visit.
I'll leave out the rest but it ended with Mr. Peters begging Jim to leave O'Brien because he was shall we say "not going to be in a good frame of mind for his fight"
I dount O'Brien will be back to Ireland.
Re: Irish Boxers in the US
I wonder would Rock come out of retirement to fight O'Brien. There would be a nice bit of trash talking in the build up by the sounds of it.

Re: Irish Boxers in the US
I doubt very much if he will be back, and even less likely for a clown like O'Brien who actually lost in Ireland against Kamdoum (5-7) but got the decision cos he was the "promoters boy"Deno1986 wrote:I wonder would Rock come out of retirement to fight O'Brien. Re: Irish Boxers in the US
Josh Rutgers(a truly dreadful Cruiserweight) is Irish and fights out of Florida.
Re: Irish Boxers in the US
I never even heard of him to be honest. Any idea what part of Ireland he is from?BigEars wrote:Josh Rutgers(a truly dreadful Cruiserweight) is Irish and fights out of Florida.

I don't but if you got in touch with Paschal Collins he could probably tell you.Deno1986 wrote:I never even heard of him to be honest. Any idea what part of Ireland he is from?BigEars wrote:Josh Rutgers(a truly dreadful Cruiserweight) is Irish and fights out of Florida.
Paschal was thinking of bringing Rugters over to fight on a show in Cork...........then he probably saw these Youtube clips and thought better of it.

Seeing another video where he is speaking it's unlikely he's 1st generation Irish. He has a strong American accent.

the big crazy red haired fecker on youtube? I seen him flailin his arms alright. Poor!BigEars wrote:Josh Rutgers(a truly dreadful Cruiserweight) is Irish and fights out of Florida.
Born in Dublin but lived all his life in Florida. Never spoke to anyone that knows him though
Re: Irish Boxers in the US
I just watched the youtube clips, it was a bit like watching white collar boxing between a few angry solicitors from Cork. I'm sorry I even asked who he was. Not going to be setting the Cruiserweight division alight anytime soon.

Re: Irish Boxers in the US
wow they are bad!!! very bad. they must give an cúnt a licence there. I could build a pretty decent record in a year over there I reckon.BigEars wrote:I don't but if you got in touch with Paschal Collins he could probably tell you.Deno1986 wrote:I never even heard of him to be honest. have a look at his record on BoxRec - he is unbeaten, but all his opponants were debutants and havent fought since.
