Blackborow is the family name. Jacks" older brother Perce Blackborow became well known as the stowaway in Shackletons"Antarctic
Expedition 1914-17.
Jack became a professional boxer in 1916 and had only one defeat in his first 12 contests at the Tredegar Hall, Newport when boxing shows
were being held there every week. As Private J. Blackborow S.W.B. he was reported wounded in 1918.

belt competition, his contest with Ernest Tyncke was also at Tht Ring Blackfriars.

I notice that the name Joe Rolfe I gave who twice fought Jack Blackborow as been changed to Joe Ralph.This Is Incorrect.

The Joe Rolfe who fought Jack Blackborow was from Bermondsey and is listed in Yearbook Records of British Champions=Len Harvey,Ted Kid Lewis,Alex Ireland,Tommy Milligan and Jack Hood.

Cigarette Card No.36 of Ogdens :Pugilists in Action: 1928 series gives Joe Rolfe born Bermondsey,London.He his also referred to by this name in boxing books by Charlie Rose and R.A.Haldane.

His record appears to have been mixed in with Record 17880 for Joe Ralph.No idea where the alias came from.
