Calzaghe calling out Eccles come on!

I wathched Joe Calzaghe in his interview on sky saying there could be a fight with Eccles, what the fornicate is going on with these people, I said in another post Calzaghe is a class act, he should be looking to clear up the super middle weight division, yet another step backwards, Forget Johnson and Tarver for the moment, fight Kessler for the WBA, Lacy for the IBF and then go for the WBC, with either Beyer or Green, these fights could be made easily as they have all been calling Calzaghe out, when he wins all the belts (which he has the talent to) then go for the light heavies.

It's all becoming a bit of a windup isn't it. Calzaghe spent years complaining that he couldn't get the big fights, how this one and that one were avoiding him, all the while defending his title at home. Now, when the SM division looks better than it has since Toney and Jones Jr were in their pomp, he's turning down shots at genuine title belts and instead facing Echols, who is about 5 years past his prime. I mean OK, it's still a good fight, because at least Echols is dangerous still, but I'd much rather see him fight Kessler.

If Tarver beats Johnson, I think we can kiss goodbye to any vestiges of hope of Calzaghe getting his big fight, Johnson is hungry Whilst Woods, who is in my opinion a less talented fighter is now going for his fourth shot at a genuine title belt, Calzaghe is pricing himself out of what would be his first.

How I wish boxing were like tennis or football, where the best fighters had no choice but to face one another, imagine what a great sport it would be.

I do beleive Calzaghe is a class fighter, the fact is if he carries on fighting hand picked opponents like salem and co someone will land a right hand on him and knock him out cold, At this moment in time if he does'nt step up to the plate and fight for one of the main three belts he's gona miss the boat.

Two years ago, I think Calzaghe would have beaten anyone at SM out there. However, now, with declining level of competition, and an seeming indifference to making the big fights happen, and having been dropped hard by Byron Mitchell and then Kabary Salem, you would have to say that he is already in decline.

Jeff Lacy by contrast has passed a test in Vanderpool, and though he made hard work of Sheika, Sheika fought a more controlled fight than in the past. Lacy is on the way up, and Green is at his physical peak, Kessler too is a fighter on the up. Would Calzaghe beat any or all of these, not so sure any more. If a crude mauler like Salem can hit and drop Calzaghe, I'm sure anyone of those guys can. Would Calzaghe be able to get up and just whale away until he gets back on top against better competition?

I don't blame Sports Network for any of this, nobody is preventing Calzaghe from getting the big fights, he has always had an excuse from not wanting to fly, or being avoided, and now Kessler isn't a big enough name and 'never fights out of Denmark.' It seems obvious that Calzaghe isn't too bothered about what anyone thinks and is content to fight who he wants, when he wants and on his own terms. Fair play to him, he's making good money for himself and all that, but he shouldn't be surprised when people aren't heaping praise on him and his career when he retires among genuine fans of the sport.

i think hios boat sailed 18 months ago personally and he missed the second one last june when he pulled out the glencoffe fight.

how many boats does he need?

What happened about a fight with Kessler?
Didn’t Kessler’s people say they are up for it and keen to get it on and were meeting up with Mr Allegedly about now?

I am informed that Team Palle would be willing to let Mikkel travel because they lack a TV contract back home, wouldn`t this be a better match up??

Calzaghe poo-pooed that idea out of hand. He stated that Kessler wasn't a big name, never fights outside of Denmark, and that the money wasn't right. Basically he wasn't interested, even though Kessler said he would travel. It's not happening.

Bloody hell, I thought it was a dead duck. If this happens I'll gladly eat my words, a fight with Kessler is exactly what the doctor ordered.

So why was Calzaghe so emphatic about not wanting the fight then?

Good fight if it happens, be the first fight Calazaghe's had for a long time where he won't be a big favourite, Kessler's in form right now.

It's good but remember they are only in talks. Think of the amount of fighters Warren has said he is having talks with about getting in the ring with Calzaghe in the last couple of years. Even when they get signed Joe will usually find a way not to fight.

Well if it happens I can see Kessler winning and to be honest I hope he does. Seeing Calzaghe flat on his back being counted out would be most satisfying.

It would be a better match up in regard to it being a real unification but Kessler is a little inexperienced to realistically be expected to topple Calzaghe, though it wouldn`t be impossible.

Lets hope it happens.

Everyone in the division is going to inexperienced compared to Calzaghe, those who aren't are likely to be past it, so let's not knock this fight if it happens.

Calzaghe has experience yes but I think he's gone stale he hasnt looked good in a long time. And he's definitely hurtable now as Salem showed when he dropped him. Kessler is a hundred times better than Salem, I really think he could do the business. Calzaghe obviously doesnt fancy the job much does he?

No he certainly doesn't, thats why on SKY he was saying he was looking to fight "World rated operators like Scott Pemberton who beat World class Omar Sheika" blah blah blah. Scott Pemberton is a game puncher but come on he is a lower level fighter. Stop trying to fool the public all the time into these high paying, low risk mismatches.

in the above, and it's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black, innit? So Kessler "never fights outside of Denmark" but has offered to do so on this occasion? That's more than Calzaghe has ever been willing to do, even against proven international stars. Neither of these 2 guys is big on the worldwide stage, but Calzaghe deludes himself that he's some kind of megastar. Mega-wanker and waste of talent is more like it.

Look at the only recognisable names on Kesslers record and this more than justifies what I said.
I am not knocking the fight before its made but just stating what is very much the truth.

basically, Kessler, lacy, Green and mundine are all less experienced than Calzaghe, much as Tua, Grant and Briggs were less experienced than Lewis, but all were considered threats. likewise in Calzaghe's case.
