JAWAID KHALIQ
Im told by an associate ( not someone i know well enough to call a mate) that jawaid has now started his own gym and has got his trainers licences etc , anyone know if hes doing amateur or pro , and maybe where this gym is , i know its somewhere in nottingham but no idea where , i never saw him box but im told he was pretty useful and then just suddenly quit without any prior warning etc , anyone really know a great deal about him , my interest is just curiosity more than anything as hes a former ibo welterweight world champ thats from my hometown yet i dont know bugger all about him really.

Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
I saw Jawaid box a few times in the nineties. I remember him being a typical Ingle type boxer with good movement and quick hands.
I'm sure I heard that he had gone to live in Oz but I could be wrong.
Anyway he is clearly back and I wish him well with his new venture as I'm sure he will be a welcome addition to the Notts boxing scene.

Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
very good boxer indeed. jav "too sleek" khaliq.
He put in an excellent performance against Jan Bergman if I recall. He won a barnstormer of a fight against Takaloo early on in their careers. Stopped him I believe. It was a good story... taxi man who wins the belt. He was decent enough to make a crack at world level. I never knew why he just quit out of the blue.

Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
He was a very good fighter who retired at the right time. He was well into his 30's and was fighting in one of the toughest divisions out there, consequently he was one step below genuine world title calibre. I was really glad that he retired with an excellent win streak and his head held up high.

Khaliq was a good example of a fighter making the absolute most of their ability, really enjoyed watching him...I remember that he beat Takaloo early in his career aswell....

Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
sounds like i missed out an a good fighter then as in those days i was just a casual fan as i was involved in football quite heavilly as i was a scout at forest and coaching kids in my own youth team , so for a while boxing wasnt number 1 for me but glad to say it is now , if i had to choose for example between a carl froch vs mikkel kessler world title bout or a liverpool fa cup final , froch would get my money .
i hope jav does well in this new venture , nottingham would be a hot bed of talent in most sports if people took more time to help them , as i have done in the past with football and now jawaid khaliq is with young boxers .
respect

Wouldnt a casual fan know a prominent boxer from his hometown?especially one who was on Sky as often as Khaliq?damianhucker1 wrote:sounds like i missed out an a good fighter then as in those days i was just a casual fan as i was involved in football quite heavilly as i was a scout at forest and coaching kids in my own youth team , so for a while boxing wasnt number 1 for me but glad to say it is now , if i had to choose for example between a carl froch vs mikkel kessler world title bout or a liverpool fa cup final , froch would get my money .

Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
very decieving was khaliq, tall, lean, & without sounding bent a good looking lad. he had a great chin & a good dig with nice stance good frame etc.
Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
Was a big fan of Khaliq, loved to watch him fight. Got a couple of solid wins towards the end of his career, but I still would have liked to see him have a crack at the Euro title.
Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
It's disappointing he never went on to win a legit world title, the politics of the day robbed him of those chances. Liked watching him, he always started slow but, moved through the gears; and overwhelmed the guys in front of him. He never fought very often after he won the IBO, which I found rather strange.

Re: JAWAID KHALIQ
It would have been nice for him to get something more legit than the IBO belt - like the British title or something, but there is no chance he would have won a legit version of the world title.skelp wrote:It's disappointing he never went on to win a legit world title, the politics of the day robbed him of those chances.
