In fairness he was the biggest grossing fighter of the past two decades, so his retirement is newsworthy even if his career has fizzled towards the end. It's not as though GBP have wangled Geoff McCreesh a front cover Ring exclusive.

Oscar also has a blog on their website, which is nice. He's been telling Manny to take the tests, backing up his new best friend Floyd.

Did you see the front of their February Edition with The headline-"The Secret of Manny's Magic"
Amusing headline considering whats happened over the past few weeks. I'd say they regret printing the magazine so far in advance.

oh yeah they did that.

Quiet period of actual fighting in December and January - Oscar is the biggest fighter of the last 20 years, and one of the finest - a true all time great (if you ask me) and has been quiet about his retirement, with rumours of a return been mounting.

There he is - flashing that hollywood smile - portrayed in the best possible light - his angelic face glorified so fully on the cover that there is no room for another boxer or headline to be fitted on the cover.
Its Oscars World - we are just living in it.

The Ring is a boxing irrelevance in my opinion. It is ridiculously out of date and churns out the same stuff every isse.
Re: THE RING: Goldenboy have no influence there. At all.
I bought it once or twice but I'm not fond of reading previews of fights that had already happened a few months before. A December issue of The Ring should realistically be brought out in October, it's so outdated. €8 isn't exactly value for money either.

De La Hoya is a deluded creep.

The Ring is a piece of crap, I gave up on buying that a long time ago probably at a time when DLH was still a major force.

Ive always found Ringpiece to be very dull.
And by the time it hits the shelves its chatting about fights that a long dead & buried in history.
Sure you get the odd decent piece (usually done by an internet scribe) but generally it's very tedious.

Plus, it costs about a fiver. Boxing Monthly for £3.60 is a much better option in my opinion!

I'll bet my bottom dollar that The Ring now operates at a loss and is just subsidised by GBP as a PR/branding vehicle.

I once spent about at least £5 maybe £6 or £7 on a RING special edition magazine all on just the De La Hoya V Trinidad fight.
That was way back in 1999 - when I was a teenager and alot more guillable.
Basically - it was just over analzaying the up cming fight - and just about filling up the pages with drivel.
I'm older and wiser now - and havent bought the ring since about 2004.
I think the ring is quite crap = because I always get the impression they just find any old crap to fill the pages just so they can fill out the magazine to sell it.
In other words - they dont really care about the boxing - its just a product they gloss up to make the most money out of it.
In contrast - a great paper like boxing news - with a limited budget - you feel has boxing at its heart.

The Ring website is a lot better than the magazine. Has a more diverse range of articles and is updated every 3/4 days
