London pulls out of World Series of Boxing

Ok, for those that haven't heard of this World Series of Boxing, it is a way of amatuer boxers competing in a type of Pro style competitions, but still allowing the boxers to compete in the Olympic games. Its been designed so that the boxers can earn money and not be lost to the Amateur Olympics.

The ABA have had to pull out of the competitions, because it won't risk the $75000 non-refundable deposit to enter the competition.

This may have the reverse impact for the ABA as more young boxers may turn pro, looking for the money there.

Here's the rules of the World Series of Boxing.

• Each match between teams will consist of five bouts (one per weight class).
• Each bout will consist of five rounds.
• Rounds will consist of three minutes in length.
• Each evening of boxing will last approximately two hours, which is ideal for television programming and for the spectator experience.
• A manual scoring system will be used with three judges operating a 10 point system; the scores will be announced at the end of each bout but there will not be any live scoring during the bout itself.
• The referee will play no part in the judging.
• The boxers will not wear vests or headgear.
• The glove weights will be 8 oz. and 10 oz. (depending on weight categories).
• The ring size will be the same as for AIBA competitions.

sounds like amateurs doing white collar , its basically pro boxing , with amateurs taking part , i personally think the aba would have lost more boxers to pros as some would have realised the pro style suited them more etc etc

It would of been an international contests though, you would of had a team GB against other national teams.
We've seen the sucess of the Prizefighter type of competitions, this could of been just as popular.

yeah i agree it would be popular , really popular in fact , i dont really watch amateur boxing but id watch that .

This was BABA's (British Amateur Boxing Association) decision not the ABA's wasn't it? I guess the reduced funding that BABA received for 2012 didn't make this financially viable.
