MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Rob Medley's decision to stand up to Mundine's mouth at whatever weight is testimony to the true character of Medley, here you have a fighter who has worked his heart out to get to where he is and to be WHO he is. I've had the pleasure of seeing many of Robs fights and also share an insight to the kind of person he is, he deserves success, he will have his success and it is not always measured by winning, but also by character, for me, he has already won the fight, and that was to see who was the real 'Man', he stood up and accepted mundane Mundine's terms no matter what, thats a man. Mundine is a loser in the eyes of Australia no matter what the outcome!
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Really he should tell Mundine to get stuffed since he won't fulfil his contract and fight at 154. The only reason the fight will go on is because it's unlikely Medley would get a pay day like this elsewhere.
I reckon if he was standing tall he would stand up to Mundine, call him a cat and tell him to find another scrub to fight.

Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Thanks Marlin, to walk away and tell him to get stuffed is an option I agree, but it is as equal as to standing tall and facing adversity, your right it is a good pay day for Rob and at the end of the day he deserves to be paid for the hours of preparation both mentally and physically and probably for his family too.
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
I understand where your coming from mate but I am sick and tired of Mundine doing whatever he wants and getting away with it, you shouldn't allowed to simply change the weight whenever you want. Someone needs to tell him to get stuffed.
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
If it were me handling Medley Id have told Mundine to get Stuffed and wlak away from the fight. End of the day if Medley carrys on as he is wins a few regional titles and picks up a ranking he'll get very good paydays in europe possible world title fights as well..................he has the record and if Pittman can Rob can also!
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Exactly N2 Shape, he's been making a decent living so far, he doesn't need Mundine.
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
I agree Marlin, problem is the mentality is that these guys NEED to fight Mundine to have "made it" whereas thats completely wrong! Medley doesnt NEED mundine at all, id go as far as saying Mundine needs Medley to go ahead with this fight more so than Medley needs it!

Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
This kind of shit really gets me down. Although I agree with all the personal shit getting slung at Mundane, remeber that the Man is only symptomatic of the deeper problem of boxing's organisation and economics. How can it be fixed?
(edit: haha, I didn't realise there's an auto-edit function for swear words. WTF?)

Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
End of the day its the paying public that keep people like Mundine afloat! His PPV revenue is the highest in Australia currently and probably ever? thousands turn up to the shows! If everyone switched off and choose not to watch him fight not buy PPV and not turn up to the promotions there wouldnt be a Anthony "The Man" Mundine in boxing!!
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Funny thing though is that the boxers on "The Contender" have said that when the TV cameras are not on him, Mundine behaves like a rational person. He even laughs at jokes at his expense.
Who is the real Anthony?
Who is the real Anthony?
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Not anymore, Green would get that mantle, i think the last 5 or 6 shows of Mundines have been quite empty, and rumour is he hands a lot of tickets out to friends and family.N2 Shape wrote:End of the day its the paying public that keep people like Mundine afloat! Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Without knowing the specifics of what Medley is getting paid for this fight (as opposed to what he normally gets paid per fight), making the assumption he's getting a significant pay-day it would be hard for him to not take this fight.
But it still makes me sick that Mundine, time and time again, gets away with this kind of behaviour. Whether it be avoiding mandatories, hand-picking "easy" opponents, dropping weight to avoid fighters, etc - he's still got the publicity and getting decent money for it all.
Marlin, I've heard that his give-away tickets have been quite high for quite a few years now as well. I can only imagine that his PPV numbers would have decreased significantly (home buys at least, probably not as much from pubs) also.
I've heard too that he's a real nice, humble, etc, etc person outside of the ring too that his obnoxious fighting, almost WWE, persona is all a put-on. And that was fine for when he started out especially as you had the whole "nice ocker" Greenie and "bad boy rapper" Mundine rivalry going, but these days - you're act's old, show us who you really are and a lot of us will likely forgive you for past indiscretions and support you.

Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
Mundine only has a few years left in him. He should ditch his current management and actually do something worth talking about.
Re: MEDLEY STANDS TALL
if i was medley i'd wait till the morning of the fight and demand an extra 50k cash or he won't show. mundine is loaded, he'd have it in his wallet.
medley surely would legally be in his rights to refuse to fight if mundine don't fight at light middleweight, and still be compensated as they have signed a contract.
