I think I found a new Mickey Walker bout that didnt appear on his record. At
least not any record Ive been able to come up with. In fact it took place on
a date that is already in his record so some might be able to shed light on
this. I found this over a year ago and took it for granted that Walkers
record was complete and then when talking with Dan he told me he had never
seen it on a record. At the time I didnt copy it down so I just forgot about
it and assumed it would pop up again some day. It did today. Here it is and
Ive also cited the article it was found in:
December 19, 1919 Cambria A.C. Philadelphia, PA. Mickey Walker L by KO 2
Frankie Smith
"...Frankie Smith, a pupil of Tommy O'Toole, made Mickey Walker, of
Elizabeth, quit in the second round. The bell saved Walker in the first...
Walker substituted for Terry Hanlon who failed to show up." -Philadelphia
Record, December 20, 1919.
The Philly Record is the second source Ive found for this fight. The first
was the one I found this fight in when I talked to Dan but I cant remember
which Philly paper it was. If recall from that paper this bout was part of a
card featuring a group of fighters that came over to Philly from Elizabeth,
New Jersey. This is partially substantiated by the fact that some of the
other fighters on the card were from Elizabeth such as Willie Davis, and
Frankie Farmer.
Id like to hear everyones opinion/information on this.
