vrs Mike Tyson
vrs Oliver McCall

Toney (from Holyfield fight) makes fool of him and wins clear decision, something like Byrd-Tua. Tyson wins easily, unless you meant really shot version of him (let's say, 2000+). It would be interesting to see the battle of chins with McCall... this would be the one winable for Tua.

The Tuaman, imo, would have been the wrong type of power hitter for Frazier to have encountered. Both had similar styles, both had great chins, great conditioning, great power; but its Tua who seems to have the longer longevity over Smokin' Joe, he's still dangerous, while Joe was in the twilight of his career at the same age. I dont think Frazier could have knocked him out, and I don't see any other way for Joe to win other than by decision, because he did have an incredible work rate [not like Tua didn't either, Tua and Ibeauchi still hold the highest punch total in a HW fight].

I tend to think, at Tua's best, he may have been out pointed by Joe. However, Frazier never fought such a powerful hitter with the exception of Foreman----I shudder to think what would happen to Frazier if Tua's left landed, as well as what would happen if Frazier's left landed on Tua. I think it goes the distance---but if Tua was to win, he'd win by kayo inside eight rounds.

I had to laugh a little at this post.
As much as I am a fan of Tua, Joe Frazier is many many leagues above him. FRazier showed his chin and power and heart and stamina in the toughest era for heavyweights in history and during a distinguished title reign. Tua showed his power and stamina and heart in .....well i thought he showed those things best in his fight with ibeaubuchi and rahman and arguably he deserved to lose both. Irrespective neither of those guys deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as a Muhammad Ali or Foreman.
Your argument about Tua having had greater longevity than Frazier is a little like arguing the 42 year old pub sunday league football player has had more longevity than Alan Shearer as he has carried on playing at a higher age.

Frazier only fought the best, Tua hasn't and has flirted with the HV division for the best part of a decade without fighting anyone tough since he lost to Lewis.

As for the actual matchup Frazier brutalises Tua. Even if agree for arguments sake Tua had the power to hurt Joe, Joe had incredible pride and a chin of granite. People forget it took a rampant George Foreman to knock him down six times and Joe was still standing when most other heavyweights in history would have been out after the first knockdown. Tua would get beaten up by Joe and even if he did land a big left hook on Joe at some stage, Frazier would take it and keep smokin on the way to a 8 or 9 round stoppage.


By the same token it wouldnt suprise me either if Joe did the job in a couple of rounds. Tua never met anyone like Joe.

Frazier would beat Tua just like he did Bonavena, another iron-chinned banger with a big left hook.

Tua's standing in mythical matchups b/c of his knockouts of C and B-class opponents is so over-fetched it's incredible. Tua never beat an A-class fighter in his career and never would.

Until I read this post, I've never even heard of #3 and #4 on the above list, but I was away for many years.

By the lineage, only Rahman & Moorer were --- again, by the lineage, Rahman once, & Moorer once. Neither made a single successful defense. The rest were title-holders, never considered legitimate division champions, & ThatOne's listing of them highlights his complete lack of knowledge on the subject.

Oquendo never even held a paper title. I don't know why he is included as a world champion.

I have always liked Tua, but aside from his power and chin, there isn't much to bang home about. Frazier is just too good for him and I think Joe would win a wide decision (David's chin allows him to go the distance). I mean if Ike could do it......
