So let's get this straight, you win rounds for being 'threatening' and 'looking like you'll get a KO' that is the biggest load of bollocks.
You are supposed to win rounds for 'effective aggression' which means actually hitting your opponent. Most of harrison's shots were being blocked by Polo, they might have made big slappy noises, but hitting someones gloves IS NOT a scoring shot.
polo by contrast, landed a steady stream of jabs throughout the fight, so do those NOT COUNT because they aren't THREATENING enough or LIKE TO PRODUCE A KO.
Seriously, boxing scoring is going out of the window, fighters may as well do away with the jab altogether, because there were rounds where Harrison landed 4 shots to about 20 jabs from polo, which were scored to Harrison.
I really don't see Harrison has a hope in hell against Barrera if he fights like that, I don't know if he was weight drained or what, but he looked bloody awful.
Harrison's corner were going mental, because they saw that their man was getting his ears boxed off, but the decision saved him, against someone who can punch, it won't come down to the ref, because Scott was ready to go against a man who wasn't even throwing big punches.
I am really dissapointed by what I saw last night, polo has every right to be aggreived, because Harrison won that fight for just coming forward and missing shots.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Jim Watt started it all, in my opinion.Lefthookhappy19 wrote:Also those Sky feather rankings are really pissing me off. They still have JMM above Pac despite Pac having a bigger win (Barrera) than any that Marquez has ever had EVER. Fact was JMM/Pac was a close fight and a draw, on most scorecards it was only separated by a point or two. JMM goes on to stink out the joint on the undercard of the biggest card he will ever be on and then prices himself out off a rematch with Pac. Pac takes up the challenge and moves up to fight Morales. They can't justify the those rankings.
In that 11th round Harrison was in BIG trouble,if anything,Polo stands more of a chance stopping Harrison in the rematch.
Just imagine when Barrera unleashes them punishing salvos/combos upon Scott, there'll be no respite for Scott.
Also remember that Barrera was also a big featherweight so therefore eliminating Harrison size & strength advantages.
Anywhere outside of Scotland Scott Harrison would have lost his title last night.

What I meant by threatened was he was the more likely to pull a KO from somewhere.
Did you ever have a feeling Polo could have scored the KO at any time??
And your punch stats are a mile away from what the stats at the end showed, if I remember they were almost identical, where do you get the 4shots to 20 you mention??

For once I agreed with Maloney when he said they need to go back to the drawing board and word on mistakes. Big mistakes IMO...
His head movement was non existant, his jab was feeble and his footwork was ponderous from the beginning. Yes these are all Harrision traits but these traits won't get him a major title. The likes of Marquez, Morales and Barrera would box his head off and make hime look quite silly.
Needs to develop his jab and work on his movement but at this stage in his carreer I doubt he can change this much... :(
Scott knows he lost that fight and so do most if not all the boxing fraternaty.
Polo 115/113

I had worries about Polo when I first heard the fight being announced but I still reckoned Scott would decision him. I would avoid the rematch if I were Harrison. Take someone that he can knockout. A durable, slick southpaw like Polo should be given a wide berth.KOJOE90 wrote:According to the BBC Scott Harrison has promised Polo a rematch.
It was a bastard of a fight to score. There were lots of lulls in the fight when not a lot happened. In the end I agreed with McGuigan and had Harrison winning by two rounds but would not have moaned should he have lost his belt.
tolstoy, I agree completely I somehow managed to have Harrison a winner by one point.tolstoy wrote:It was a bastard of a fight to score. There were lots of lulls in the fight when not a lot happened. However if I had not kept a scorecard I am sure I would have felt Polo had done enough to win, it was one of those fights.
Yes, I know what you mean. If it was judged as a whole then Polo might have nicked the fight but round by round I gave it to Scott.KOJOE90 wrote:tolstoy, I agree completely I somehow managed to have Harrison a winner by one point.tolstoy wrote:It was a bastard of a fight to score. Harrison apparently is promising him a rematch too.

Polo wants it in vegas though claiming that he got the draw because of fighting in his backyard.

I think it was the old problem of what the judges were looking for, i thought Wolverhampton's own John Coyle had it spot on
The sport is Boxing not aggression, Harrison was marching forward a lot but wasn't really landing anything...those "flurries" might get the crowd at the back of the arena excited but they were not scoring shots most of the time. Harrison's brute strength is what gets him through fights, if someone comes at him like Chi would then i give him a chance but against a boxer/mover he is out at sea.
Medina completely outboxed him and so did Polo, after the second round against Abelyan i thought Abelyan would do a job on him but he forgot his gameplan, tried to trade and got stopped. Harrison has got worse technically IMO and just tries to take guys out on one punch, he needs to revert back to the controlled intelligent pressure he put on Santiago, Chacon, McCullough etc
I had Polo winning but while i wouldn't call it an out and out robbery i do think it exposed Harrison as a second level operator, he may hold a "world" title (Ian Darke called the WBO a genuine title three times last night
) but when it comes to names like Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Pacquiao etc i can't see Harrison beating any of them as he is too predictable and one dimensional.

Maloney had it level he said after 8 (fair play for being honest there), then said he had it level after 12. What rounds other than the 12th did Harrison win out of those last four.
I thought Polo was robbed pretty badly vs Chacon, but as he has said, this one was worse.
McGuigan said it was a carbon copy of the 1st Medina fight and yet scored it for Harrison? Medina gave Harrison a lesson, and yes this was a Carbon copy in that respect.
I normally like the Sky analyst of scoring fights, they take ring generalship and control quite alot, whereas US analysts often take the compubox stats a bit too literally. I've agreed with the way Sky scored the JMM vs Pacquiao fight and also Mayweather vs Castillo 1 (something most Americans do not agree with). This time though, I think they've taken the stats too literally.
There was one man controlling the fight and was the ring general, that was Polo. He was robbed, it wasn't even close.

Harrison should forget about unification fights or big step ups he should fight this man.

Unless the honourable thing is done with Polo, the guy above I think would be a tremendous fight for Scott at this stage. If he wins that bous, he deserves his crack at the big boys.
Just wondering now, if the WBO will force Polo vs Harrison II, he was mandatory before. It might go to purse bids, perhaps team Polo might win the bid and Harrison will have to defend in Columbia. Might get fairer judging.

i was at the braehead and i thought scot harrison deserved the draw but i would not have complained had he lost scott in my opinion won 123lost 4 spilt 5 lost 6 won 7&8 lost 9 10 11 won 12 but as boxing is about opinion other could be wright and i can be wrongjomothepure wrote:I was at a friends house who doesn't have sky. I had to watch the BBC bit on their site. After 12th round, I honestly thought Polo had won it fairly comfortably.
Now, I am Scottish, and I am a Scott fan (though I want to smash a great hole through fat Frank's face for all this shite he spews about us not being fans because we don't fill up Braehead arena, that really does my head in. If Frank ever puts on 400lb and comes up to my weight I'd batter the life out of him for that.)
Sorry, bit sidetracked there. Anyway, point is, from what I've heard, Scott was fairly lucky to get the draw. I was imagining after how big he'd arsed up. A slip against Medina, fair enough, he got away with that, but if he'd lost to Polo last night, he would have had a hell of a time to come back into contention after that.
Just how contraversial was the draw? Any doubt, I really think Harrison has to go for the rematch. Where would he go, who would he fight next, without one? Either way, Harrison has to work v. hard. I would say he's about a Charlton compared to the likes of Barrera/Chelsea. Chi I'd put about a Newcastle who Scott probably could beat at home.
One thing though - fair game to the WBO, can't fault their rankings!![]()
so to say it was a robbery is just petty what benifit would the three nutral judges get so lets hope we can stop the bad mouthing of very good contest
Well Chi won comfortaby enough at the weekend. His opponent sounds promising also, only twenty one and lasted the course with Chi without going down. He could turn out to be a good fighter in a few years time.
Here is the fightnews report. Anybody know if this fight has been televisied in any country.
WBC featherweight champion Injin Chi defeated challenger Tommy Browne by unanomous decision Sunday at the Grand Hilton Hotel Arena in Seoul, Korea. The champion dominated the fight from start to finish, but was frustrated by his 21-year-old opponent, who used his left to good effect, keeping Chi at a distance. Browne was briefly in trouble just two minutes into the bout as Chi connected with a solid left hook. The Australian lost his balance and looked like his fight might come to a premature end, but recovered well. The youngster's best chances came in the sixth round, when he landed a single left that had Chi shaking his head and with a rally in the ninth. However on that occasion, the Korean responded with a two-handed fusillade that turned the tables and had the challenger struggling to reach the end of the round. There was little doubt about the final result. The scorecards were 120-107, 117-112 and 119-108. There were no knockdowns in the bout.

please tell me how. I am mystified how that fight could have been given to Harrison. Most of his work was ineffective, you don't win rounds for just coming forward, especially when you are getting jabbed to death as you come in. polo landed so many small but scoring left and right hands, just because a shot doesn't cause someone to retreat or snap their head back does not mean you don't score it.tolstoy wrote:I had worries about Polo when I first heard the fight being announced but I still reckoned Scott would decision him. also I think it's a bit strange of Maloney to say that all the talk of superfights was what put pressure on Harrison, when it was him who was going on about him fighting Barrera.
I have to say, that until I see a more convincing performance, I think Scott has found his level, and although he is a very good fighter, he has some serious limitations which I don't see him being able to overcome. his footwork and speed of thought just aren't there.
Oh no, this was a total robbery!! This was disgusting!
I had Polo winning that fight 116-112.
You guys know how much I HATE Harrison, but surely I am not saying this out of bias!? Polo was screwed, end of story.
I have always thought Harrison was overrated, and I cannot understand why we Brits rate him so highly calling him the next big thing. He might be the savior of Scottish boxing and one of the greatest Scottish boxers of all time, but that's not really a difficult thing to do.
I'm sorry, but I will be laughing my head off when he fights the big boys. He won't be able to tie their shoe laces, let alone defeat them. His barbaric braveheart style is going to look hillarious against the skills of Morales, Barerra, Marquez, etc..... and the more aggressive types like Chi and Manny can do what Harrison does, but far, far better.
On the world stage Harrison will get slaughtered, it will be a public excecution.

I dnot see much controversy int he decision, I thought a draw was fair, and did not really think either fighter deserved to lose it after a great fight. So I was happy.
I would love to see Harrison fight Chi, I think that would be great, regardless of who won, but I think he may just be contained at arms length in a slow fight by any of the other top operators, although Pac-Man might give him a real pasting.
