If a shot at the WBC comes, then Rhodes will be in like a shot.
Don't know where you're coming from mate.
Was it in the interview after the fight, or in an interview post fight that either he, or the promoter said, they'd be concentrating on defending the title and not on getting the WBC opportunity.... or was it something I smoked?
News to me mate.
For the avoidance of doubt, if the oppertunity presents itself, it will be taken.
On the Euro front, Baysangourov hasn't disppointed. He's bottled it and withdrawn.
Mandatory number 3 to be named today with purse bids by the 28th.
Don't you just love boxing ?
Baysangourov sounds like a proper time waster.I think Ryan is in a very good position here.I think he is the best in europe at light middleweight and is not far away from a world title shot.Brilliant stuff.I hope he gets good pay days to boot.
Wales wrote:Great, Baysangurov will loose purse bids then ull out a week before leaving ryan looking for a suitible stand in.... "you heard it here first"
Only thing I was wrong about was the fact he did it so early.
True, Wales, but leading up to purse bids he was all for it, and with the backing of K2 and a date pencilled in for Dusseldorf, to then walk away is still bizarre, regardless of his history.
Maybe he was scared of losing his WBA ranking ?
Anyway onwards and upwards as they say.
By the way, Ryan cannot seek an opponent, remember this is his mandatory.
To be fair, the EBU have moved swiftly so hopefully a deal can be sorted soon with the new mandatory.
Yes mate but my hands are tied at the moment.
Will post as soon as I can - probably tomorrow.
It's not an inspiring name mate but at the end of the day it's their title, and their mandatory.
nemanja wrote:it will be either lukas konecny(czech) or hussein bayram(france) there the next two in the ebu rankings.rhodes will school them both
Konecny is a solid fighter who gave Dzinziruk all he could handle and beat Koren Ghevor twice. I would be surprised if Rhodes schooled him, although I would favor him to win. Rhodes doesn't really do many things better than him.
However, given what twenty six has said, it is almost surely Bayram, and Rhodes will probably stop him.
Sounds like its Bayram - acceptable fight, not a bad mandatory. He's been showcased alot on Eurosports. A decent EU title level fighter, capable of giving a European champion a fright - but if Rhodes has world title aspirations, then he should beat him.
Jamie was supposed to fight Jimmy Collas and/or Canclaux during his reign, why did the EBU drop them from their high position.
More problems I'm afraid.
Bayram is out.
More news shortly.
Stu - Cancleaux got passed over for his defeat recently for the Intercontinental title over in Canada.
Colas has also lost 2 of his last 4 - one being Konecny for the EU title hence he's slipped.
Ironically Konecny was a target challenger if Rhodes had defended his WBC International title.
OK mate.
Things would be a lot simpler if this was a voluntary defence, but the EBU of all of the bodies are the keenest in appointing and sticking to their mandatories.
We've had three already - Cancleaux, Baysangourov, and Bayram.
Let's see who's next !

Twenty six,
You mentioned Ryan Rhodes' WBC International belt he won a while back...
I wondered why he didn't defend that? He vacated straight away, didn't he?
I'm assuming doing so didn't lower him in the WBC rankings, but were there any opportunities that came along to defend it before he fought Jamie Moore?
Ryan fell victim to the Setanta collapse mate, leaving it impossible for Hayemaker to put the defence on.
Ryan was then approached by the WBC to see if he would vacate to allow two Russian lads to fight for the title.
The WBC were holding an event in Moskow in honour of someone who had sadly passed away - I forget the name mate.
Ryan agreed to this, on the basis he would be made mandatory challenger to the winner, and that his WBC ranking was not affected.
Husanov won the title, but then came the offer from Frank Maloney for the Euro fight with Jamie.
The rest is history as they say.
Ryan's relationship with the WBC is solid.
hussein bayram pulled out of purse bids with matthew hall for the e.u title in november which is understandable if he gonna use his number 3 ranking to get a proper european title shot which he got.But to pull out of that as well at the age of 34 he must have no ambition at all
