Oisin Fagan vs Andy Murray-13th Feb, Alexei Acosta added.

Brian Peters announced today that Oisin Fagan will face Andy Murray for the Irish Lightweight Title at the National Stadium, Dublin. This is one of four Irish Title fights on the night.

It will be a tough fight for the unbeaten Murray who is just after recovering from a shoulder injury and looked understandably rusty in his recent outing agaisnt Alex Bone. The battle-hardened Fagan will give anyone a tough ride as Eddie Hyland found out recently and it certainly will be one of Murrays toughest outings in the paid ranks.

Also on the bill is 'Prizefighter' finalist Coleman Barrett who will be looking to claim the vacant Irish Heavyweight Title against the Dublin native Colin Kenna who will be hoping to end his run of five straight defeats, the last of which was against Martin Rogans conqueror-Sam Sexton.

Patrick Hyland and Anthony Fitzgerald will also feature on the Irish Title card with the unbeaten prospect Hyland defending his Featherweight title against Mickey Coveney. Fitzgerald will be looking to add to his run of five straight victories and get his hands on an Irish title when he stands opposite Lee Murtagh for the Irish Super-Middleweight belt. Murtagh will be looking to build on some decent form he has shown on Irish shores and should provide a tough test for Fitzy.

A strong domestic card from Peters and as always will be broadcast by RTE.

Should be a decent fight, Oisin always comes to win and despite what people seen against Khan, he is a tough fighter, hell he lasted longer than Salita lol. Murray, has a nice style but as said above will more than likely be rusty after being out of the ring for so long now.

thats a good point actually, he has never fought above 6 rounds. I wonder have the BUI made a special dispensation to make the heavyweight title active again.

I reckon Murray could finally break off the shackles and make a name for himself here. If he could stop Fagan it would be amazing but he's a tough b*stard. Should be great to watch too.

Definitely can't see him stopping Oisin. If Murray can keep him at a distance he should be able to outbox him but will Fagan let him box on the outside is another question. If Fagan manages to keep getting on the inside he could trouble Murray. Will be interesting to see the odds for this one. I backed Fagan against Hyland and might just do the same for this one.

Should be a cracker if Andy stands and 'fights' Fagan. If he boxes, I think Andy boxes the ears off Oisin with his reach, but if Oisin gets inside, it could spell huge danger for Andy. Just think Andy is a little silly to be taking this fight, when he's on the verge of big things...

Good news on the Dean Byrne front, he had an interview at the US embassy this month, all went well and he expects his VISA within the next few weeks and will then be back to LA with the bould young Kavanagh (who I have very high hopes for)

really mate? i think from what i have seen, Murray may be quick enough that he can get off whenever he wants and get out of range too. Fagan's taken a lot of shots over the years, 10 rounds is quite a long time to survive against a man who basically outclasses him, and alos, as its a title fight i have to assume Fagan will be going right at him and taking the fight to Murray- perhaps playing into the hands of the better boxer. know what i mean mate?

I really can't see Fagan being stopped in this fight CP, maybe others have different views. Fagan is a great spoiler of boxers styles by putting on sheer pressure [the much bigger Spadafora will lay testiment to that], no doubt he will be going after Murray and Murray has to keep moving and not get involved in a Fagan fight. good points there mate, hadn't thought about his layoff at all. he'll need to be free letting his hands go to keep Fagan from inposing himself on him.

The thing about this fight is that while Murray has got to be favourite, it's really a mouth-watering contest, as you just can't ever write Fagan off. Like, he's an old man (in boxing terms), 37 yet, he only took up the sport when he was 28, so he hasnt the wear and tare like kids who have been amateurs since 8&9 year olds. And he's so stubborn and tough that he doesnt seem to care about who he fights. An old trainer close to Murray told me that Murray was offered the Khan fight before Fagan was but Murray turned it down. That might have been a strategic decision, but when Fagan was asked, he said "YES" straight away. And even though Fagan broke his ankle, he still came at Khan. I just think its an intriguing fight. Murray is tough kid too, so maybe Fagan can coax him into a toe2toe fight.

Casey will take on Ibar Riyaz who defeated Gavin Prunty on the Dubliners debut in April of last year. This is scheduled for 6 rounds.

Conlans opponent has not yet been named. It will be over a 4 round distance.

No I doubt Fagan will go ahead of Murray if he wins as I don't think he is even ranked by the EBU as a Lightweight. Apart from the Khan fight he has never really fought at 135 in Europe. If Fagan wins, Murray will probably drop a bit but won't be overtaken by Fagan. Murray is currently ranked NO.4 by the EBU- he is still behind John Murray, Lee McAllister, Kev Mitchell and some Russian bloke who will probably also be looking for a shot at Mezzaches belt.
