Ring Magazine for July 1940 reports Eddie Simms KO 2 Unknown Winston at the Cincinnatti Music hall. On the undercard, Ezzard Charles won a 6-round decision over Remo Fernandez.
Boxrec & CBZ have the Simms-Winston on April 3.
Charles's record does not show a bout for April 3. Nor does it show a decision win over Fernandez.
Records do show a 6-round KO over Fernandez later in April.
Seems like this is either a missing fight for Charles, or a mis-dated date for Simms-Winston. Oh yeah, the report also says the bout with Fernandez was his second pro start.
I don't have access right now to any newspapers to resolve this one.
Ezzard Chrles -- errors/dupe/dates?
The April 3 date for Simms-Winston is correct. We have Charles W6 Charley Banks in Cincinnati for April 2 1940. It seems to me that it belongs on the Simms-Winston card.
I don't think it's a NEW fight, it might ba a fight wrongly attributed to Banks.
So it comes down to the following: was the fighter Charles beat by 6-round decision on April 3 Banks or Fernandez?
I don't think it's a NEW fight, it might ba a fight wrongly attributed to Banks.

Mike,
