Roys Protest Unlikely To Succeed, 2 CSAN members witnessed

Sydney Morning Herald

ADRIAN WARREN

Meanwhile, Green has dismissed a protest from Jones about the way his hands were wrapped before their fight as part of a familiar pattern following one of the American's rare losses.

The Combat Sports Authority of NSW has acknowledged receiving the protest.

They are expected to discuss it at their next meeting in early February.

However, the fact that two of their members witnessed Green's hands being wrapped before the fight and raised no objections means the protest is unlikely to succeed.

Green was adamant the protest took nothing away from his victory.

"It doesn't, if you look back at history this is simply a pattern that Roy Jones has followed," Green said.

"Everytime he has been demoralised in a boxing ring he's reached out and has clutched for an excuse."

Green's manager, Justin Manolikos, was fuming at the development, but was confident the controversy would not harm Green's reputation or his potential pulling power in the lucrative US market.

"He's had his hands wrapped the same way for however many years, including in the USA under their jurisdiction," an upset Manolikos said.

"He boxed there in August and there wasn't any complaints there in August.

"Coming from a steroids cheat, it's a bit of a cheap shot."

Jones was at the centre of a drugs furore in 2000 when he tested positive to anabolic steroids.

This now appears to be an act of a man trying to salvage something to help justify the proposed Hopkins fight.

Something akin to RJJ saying "The Green fight was a sham, now it's time for the real thing versus Hopkins"

And why would he say that!!!, i can't remember him saying that, i listened to his post fight comments.

I know he has said his punches feel like he has bricks in his gloves but that doesn't mean nothing, that is how they described oganovs power too, they called tyson iron mike cause it feels like your getting hit with iron when he hits you.

Are you guys roy jones fans!!!

When after the fight!!! When he was in the ring or did he say it to the media when he got home, i can't remember him saying it, i can't remember reading it.

Source please, back up your claims if you can.

You Americans don't need to wrap your hands illegally do you, cause the roids.

Some of your athletes including mosley have admitted they took them.

I can see your frustrations guys, but since the loss to Mundine, Danny Green has come back with some serious speed and power, he dropped Paul Murdock, a good, honest boxer with a solid chin, with a left jab in the first round of their light heavy weight battle.

For years Ive been saying Roy Jones Jr. doesn't like to be hit and is perhaps a bit "chinny", his movement coupled with his avoidence of big hitters such as Dariusz Michalczewski, Vassiliy jirov and Tomasz Adamek tells the story.

The fact is Roy Jones Jr. got caught by a good right hand, wrapped legaly, and couldn't handle it. It's a shame such a revered athlete tarnishes his cedability by clutching at straws, slinging accusations of cheating, when he was simply beaten by the better man on the night.
