A UK version of The Contender or something along those lines would potentially be an interesting boxing reality show. What do you think? It would also help popularise boxing to the mainstream and even provide instant exposure to talent young boxing stars.
Let's face it they are not getting enough exposure through the mainstream press and half the time we dont get to see the many of the undercard fights and miss out on the development of the upcoming fighters. The challenges of getting top prospects good mainstream exposure and telling their 'story' to the mainstream public was highlighted by Tomas Rohan in a recent Boxing News interview. So could a reality show that attracted a good range of upcoming talent be good TV and good for the game???
And who would you have on it? Fighters, promoters, trainers, presenters etc...

Rohan was right about the back story - 24/7 proves this. You cant expect casual fans and new fans to get into a fight or a fighter unless they know the back story.gasman wrote:A UK version of The Contender or something along those lines would potentially be an interesting boxing reality show. Just look at the likes of the X Factor and the way they build a back story.
It's not just about the fight.

British Contender would be good if they got the right mix between propsects and experienced lads it would get the public back into the sport and more boxing on the box

the typical line up for a Prizefighter would contain the right mix of personalities and career status of fighter you would be looking for.alexpaterson wrote:British Contender would be good if they got the right mix between propsects and experienced lads it would get the public back into the sport and more boxing on the box

I think it is worth a shot. We know that apart from the likes of Sky that other channels are not going to get involved in live boxing or a boxing magazine show. But a reality show with the right ingredients ie. format, participants etc may very well fly if it is pitched in the right way and pursue a broadcaster.
As Sligo said - just look at watch success has been generated through xfactor - that show just snowballed and it is all about the blend of good stories and talent. Someone should give it a shot.
