No Defence Required II
No Defence Required II
Well this leaves me pretty confused as to why I am on here…
I don’t meet many boxing fans in my day to day life so when I found this site it seemed like a dream. It was great to finally meet people (well read their typing) with a better knowledge of the sport than me (don’t laugh). Also I had the joy of discussing fantasy matchups and tournaments with other geeks who liked speculating on all of this…
I also hoped that maybe I’d get to read the words of wisdom from people connected to the sport (trainers, Journos, and maybe even fighters). The guys on the west coast thread are obviously connected to the sport, have vast expereince and make good reading (I soemtimes feel i should be paying a subscription). Expug is a great poster and has put up some fantastic stuff on his career and some good stories from Quick Tillis…
But to think we’ve had a championship ref and a former HW champion come on forum and basically be hounded off!
Look, I’ve been rude to people at times, we all have at some point or another. But it’s a sorry state of affairs when a former champion can’t come to the forum and we as supposed fans can’t appreciate him. Does anybody else think this is a bit of a self-inflicted black eye?

Re: No Defence Required II
I greatly respect Expug and other fighters who have frequented the forums; save for Cliff Couser who was a real dick to me a couple of times when I asked why a fighter of his stature was constantly on BoxRec practically begging to be put onto cards. Expug's insights into boxing are excellent. I wish we had more guys like him come into this forum and discuss their opinions.
Re: No Defence Required II
Cliif posts begging to be put on cards because he is slef managed and he is
using the forum to that means, alot of MMA fighters back in the late
90s early 00s did the same thing. It is how I got my fights early on.
I think also Cliff wants to stay relevant, like any fighter and wants that
last gig to justify his hard work and talents. The trouble is that the forums
like these mean alot to different people.
The Under Ground or MMA.tv as it is now, used to have ALOT of fighters on
there back in the late 90s-early 00s, these guys were just regular posters,
discussing and there to be accessed....but guess what happened ?
Keyboard heroes kept bagging them, criticising them and generally abusing
them for what ever reason, so they disappeared, of simply posted using
anonyomous aliases.
Not many people here who are regular joes post as "themselves" yet when
some one actually does, who has achieved as an athlete, they are condemned
and ridiculed.
So for all you know, alot of prize fighters most likely do come here and post
but behind a screen name like many of you lads.
Briggs getting chased of sounds retarded to me, but I recall when Tito Ortiz
was posting on MMA.Tv often 5 years ago or so and a heap of people kept
saying really nasty stuff about his wife (Jenna) and just hated on him
nastily. IT is how some people are. I have been on the receiving end of it to
a degree on some Australian MMA forums, I just don't post there any more.
As for the Alan Sugar stuff. I believe a lot of the challengers thrown Ron's way
were in regards to there being no footage of him boxing. That was what I
could determine from it all early on.
I have never taken anything personal thrown my way in arguments on here,
I love discussing boxing with you lads, even if I disagree immensely with what
you think. Some times it frustrates me that people 'see' things the way they
do but heck... where else can I discuss and network boxing at such a level ?
Even if a lot of people here do not agree with me that Holmes is the best of
them all....

Re: No Defence Required II
Oh and rest assured MMA forum fan boy posters and trolls are alot
worse than anything on these boxing forums...though the current
scene does seem to have some tards posting on their.

Re: No Defence Required II
I have been here for years now and have posted over 800 times and over 600 before it was hacked a couple of years back. Boxrec as I have stated many times, should be the best boxing site on the web because of it's data base, records, enclyclopaedia and such, but it's not.
I have NEVER had a single problem with any poster,
yet have seen posters like Barry, KOJOE, Biggs and Mr. Lipton attacked, ridiculed and mocked by the ONE poster who also continiously badgers me... it doesn't matter how much commentary, facts, proof or support you give him, he just doesn't let up - he doesn't even respond to the posts or responses, yet zero's in on something for ridicule and entertainment purpose and never seems to get pulled up, warned or banned... and we all know who he is, but no one ever calls him on it, Who IS this guy?
but these others and people that NEVER provoke, like me, are forced to live with it or leave(???)... where's the love man, RESPECT!!!

Re: No Defence Required II
Receiving a PM from Jaclem on his friendship with Ezzard Charles was one thing that really blew me away on joining. I'd never have had that without the internet and without boxrec. There are loads of fantastic things about this forum and the people on it. But to think we had R0n Lipt0n and Shannon Briggs on the books and lost them... Just seems crazy...

Re: No Defence Required II
I think Collins is a cool dude and pretty funny. I know he rubs lads here wrong,
but he actually is a very good guy to chat with on the fistic art, and has
uploaded some of the rarest bouts onto YT.
I think he comes across harsh as he...has a strong opinion...which is fine
by me.
Though I do see that some people here don't get a long. I think nothing said
on a forum about our PASSION and love should not be taken to heart.
Even Granberry needs a hug at times:)

Ezz, even with the flaws which are inherent and about equal parts humanity and systemic, this remains a great place to soak in some info, and have some great discussions and/or debates.

Re: No Defence Required II
What were Briggs, Liptons and Cousers forum names on boxrec?
Re: No Defence Required II
Briggs only had one.
I can't say regarding Lipton, there was much in the way of speculation going on.
Both are free to return at any time.

An admin decision.
Re: No Defence Required II
Agreed... Wish we could get them back (and others like them) for a question and answers thread.BoxBuzz wrote:Ezz, even with the flaws which are inherent and about equal parts humanity and systemic, this remains a great place to soak in some info, and have some great discussions and/or debates.
Actually wish other members from the sport would do something like this. I think it would establish them and the respect the deserve as boxers on a boxing forum.

Re: No Defence Required II
I'm all for Lipton coming on here and posting but him coming on as 20 different people who were avid supporters of him was pretty psycho IMO and pretty much ruined his credibility. I did think the initial response of some posters to him being here was way too harsh and off the mark.
As for Briggs, he hasn't been on here for awhile I thought (as in several years) Did he come bac recently? I thought he only posted on Current Scene.

Re: No Defence Required II
Ez: The reason why it comes out "Alan Sugar" is because some early posts by some posters about Ron were so vile as to actually seem to meet the definition of legal defamation, so the powers-that-be chose to solve the problem by inserting "Alan Sugar" whenever any poster uses Ron's name.BoxBuzz wrote:An admin decision.
At CBZ, the simple solution would have been to ban the posters.
I am not advocating either approach. The nice thing at both sites is that you can do your own self-policing of obnoxious posters with the "ignore" function.

Terry is right.
I tell you this, gents... When a boxer posts on the British & Irish forum they almost always receive a warm welcome. It's not sycophantic either. They ask hard questions but the tone is usually spot on.
Ray, you're right, I've no idea why people get themselves all in a fluster when they can set the ignore function.

Re: No Defence Required II
I would argue this is largely due to admin's tolerance of some clearly trolling posters . . .Terry D wrote:Just post on the Brit forum as it is fairly well modded and people know how to behave. BOTP conjures images of saintly old geezers earnestly discussing the sport, the reality is somewhat different. No offence to the decent posters on here but the biggest irony of Boxrec is that the BOTP closely resembles a kind of boxing fan kindergarden where all kinds of numpities try to convince someone, probably themselves, that they are boxing historians.
History, knowledge etc are ongoing processes so it is quite bemusing to see posters scramble for the highest position, to be the font of all boxing knowledge, when in reality that position does not exist, we are all part of the same process.
Still, this place is good for a laugh. Checked it for the first time in a year today and the first page seems to be exactly the same. Wicked.

Very few have the intestinal fortitude...and maturity to actuallly utilize the ignore feature. They would then be out of the drama loop. It's simply too much for some. Though to be fair some read the nonsense and somehow find the strength to willfully ignore it.

Not familiar with jimglen, but Granberry is okay in my book.
He definitely knows quite a bit about the era I'm most interested in, that being the mid '60s through mid '70s.
Plus now and then he posts some photos of Ali on his ass, courtesy Mr. Joe Frazier, that are most enjoyable and instructive for all to see.
Let him stay, moderator.

Re: No Defence Required II
I'd like to think there is a place for even the most unusual amongst us. I trust we can all keep our entry level civility aspects honed.
And I have to say a good day for Joe Frazier was very seldom a bad day for me.
