Don King decline - could it happen here?

Don King's influence has been marginalised over the last 10 years following disputes with boxers, numerous court cases, having burned his bridges with TV companies and through the emergence of new young promotional companies.

I think King's last huge mistake was arranging the middleweight unification without having the winner tied to a contract. He just hasn't recovered from that. He doesn't have the fighters, and just about the only leverage he carries is a still - lets say cosy - relationship with sanctioning bodies.

Brit forum, do you think something similar could ever happen over here? ;;-)

Everyone gets old and eventually someone younger and fresher will come through. King is very old school and DKP has been pretty much run by him on bullshite, trickery, flattery, exploitation of traditionally low intellect (businesswise) boxers and old school almost criminal tactics.

We live in a different world, a very corporate world with a better standard of basic education and boxers generally are not quite as stupid as they once were. They know there value, all have lawyers and the corporate boys have a very polished machine working well.

King has been pushed aside because he is a dinosoar and is out of his time.

That was quite clearly your intention and the answer is that everything goes in cycles and one day he will be on the out cycle as there will be a better and more polished machine running in this country with better TV dates, better connections and more clout.

One long term issue in the UK might be the lack of good TV coverage.

Terrestrial TV seem to have given up the idea now, and Sultana is gone, leaving just SKY.
