Boxing's most durable fighters.....
Boxing's most durable fighters.....
Battling Nelson made a name for himself going the distance with some of the acknowledged heaviest hitters of his day and was only stopped once towards the end of his career. His courage, tireless aggression and ability to absorb punishment earned him the nickname "The Durable Dane"
Who are some other durable boxers that can absorb punishment whilst still maintaining a high workrate?

Re: Boxing's most durable fighters.....
spanning the years 4 that come to mind, Jeffries, Moore, Chuvalo and Glen Johnson...
have to think about some lesser known fighters like Joe Grimm and company, must be countless old war horses out there, you know 200 - 300 fight guys rarely stopped.

If you'll excuse one bad NM moment and one quick KO Roberto Duran has to fit into this catagory. I like the Glen Johnson call. Jeffries and Moore of course. Maxie Rosenbloom? His record would say so, even if he was a bit of a dandy.

Jorge Castro. 130-11, 90 KOs. KO'd only twice in 20-year-career, both times when he was well past his prime and fighting at 20 or so pounds over his best weight. Started as a 19-year-old welterweight, held middleweight belt in the 1990s. As an overweight old man, fought twice for the cruiserweight title.
Took horrific nine-round beating in middleweight defense against 32-0 John David Jackson and scored one of the great come-from-behind KOs of all time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI9rydJd ... re=related
Went the distance with Roy Jones and Terry Norris at light middleweight and with 30-0 IBF cruiserweight champion Jirov. His two KO losses were against 32-0 cruiserweight champion Juan Carlos Gomez (who had a six-inch height and 11-inch reach advantage) and, at 38, against Jose Luis Herrera when Castro was coming back from a terrible car accident. Castro destroyed Herrera in two rounds a year later and then retired at 38.

Great call. Castro-JDJ is one of the most "Hollywood" fights you'll ever see!giacomino wrote:Jorge Castro. 130-11, 90 KOs. Definitely, after the Hearns fight, I thought his chin was incredible because he got into a shootfight with someone who punches a little harder and pressed him into submission.dr_devious wrote:Marvin Hagler

Kid Broad was known for his chin.
I was surprised to find out that he was British (originally).
He said Aurelio Herrera was the hardest puncher he ever faced.
