Sakio Bika v Allen Green

Post by oliverfennell »

On Feb 5 in California. That's a great fight and I'm glad to see Sakio finally get something decent. Tough one, though, but an intriguing boxer v puncher affair.

I was reading some where that Sakio would only have 2 weeks to get ready for this fight where Green, who has spent the last five weeks preparing for the box-in.dont like the looks of this for bika.

No, i thing he is a little better than that. He will never outbox a world class opponent, but he is becoming slightly better defensively. It's not hit and not be hit with him, it's get hit, but hit back harder.

It depends on your opinion of Joe Calzaghe. If you don't like Calzage, then he "only" beat a "limited brawler" in Bika. If you do like him, then he beat a teak-tough aggressor. As with all things BoxRec, there are two sides to everything - just pick the one that suits your argument!

i wouldnt exactly call Bika a good boxer, he is a good average boxer,
imo he lacks in Speed and technique, but he can bang, and agree with the others about his power, seriously thats all hes got,
but lets see if hes gonna prove me wrong, i hope he does,
heard he was sparring Geale for this fight, so it should be good....

Apparently the winner of this will enter Super Six vs Ward.

Nice fight to leap into

Ward looks like a tough guy to beat, very quick and can execute a game plan.

Bika should win this, Alan Green lacks mental toughness IMO which is the complete opposite of Bika.
Bika should be able to stop him late.

I just hope Bika has been training consistently through his inactivity.

I think that's the key. Is Bika prepared? For sure it's a winnable fight, as Green doesn't look to be any better than Calzaghe or Beyer, both of whom Bika gave hell.

As for the Super Six, why not? Almost certainly Bika won't beat Ward, but that's a series of big fights for him there regardless.

as it's been stated before, it's just good to see him fight. He is not a record padder. He is a very good fighter. I liken him to Glengoffe Johnson, extremely capable without being to absolute elite, and worthy of holding a belt at some stage. I think he will end up with more W's than not.

Ring Magazine dubbed him as the 2nd most avoided fighter in the world next to Paul Williams.

He is a very very dangerous opponent, his losses come from 2 undefeated boxers and one really early to Soliman, he is not a great boxer. He is a solid fighter with plenty heart, great power and athleticism.

He is a top 10 fighter

It is getting mightily close to February 5 and this fight is not on the schedule. According to "Boxing Scene" the Bika/Green fight is off and Green fights Ward in April.

I think it's either management/promoter issues or Bika can't get in shape in time.

I can tell you 100% that the reason that this fight was called off was due to visa difficulties. Sakio was fit & ready to go but his visa application, that was lodged in November, had not cleared. He needs a work permit to fight in the USA, not just a regular tourist visa. Sakio had taken this fight on short notice but was ready, he was ready to fight for a reasonably small amount of money considering that this was to be main event on showtime in the USA for the opportunity to get into Super 6.
I told him all along to expect the worst as the managers of the other Boxers in the Super 6 would much prefer Green in the tournament than Sakio as he is an American who is promoted by Di Bella who also looked after Jermain Taylor who's place Bika & Green were fighting for. Amazingly enough as soon as the fight was called off & Green was automatically put into the Super 6, Sakio got the news that his visa was now approved!
This could be just unfortunate timing or someone having some pull in immigration, either way, Sakio is staying positive & has his manager, Al Heymon looking for other opportunities for Sakio.
Don't be too quick to write the Scorpion off, he will be back in action very soon.
