Patterson and Ruddock

Post by Robinson »

Can any one here tell me when Floyd Patterson started training Razor,
and when the pair split and for what reason ?

I have a few Ruddock fights but not a complete set so it is hard to
gauge from what I have.

Also what improvements can you see that Patterson helped Ruddock
with ?

It seems that Floyd was fond of Rzaor using his jab more, but the late
80s Razor seemed to jab a lot to me, it was only around the Dokes
KO and the Tyson fights that he seemed to want to Smash everyone
as opposed to power box them.

Thanks again

I believe Patterson started training Razor for the Lennox Lewis fight and Ruddock was kayoed so I"m not sure how much Floyd Patterson helped Razor

Thank you for that.

Ruddock was always fun to watch, and he seemed to slip between
puncher and boxer often, atleast early in his career. The lack of balance
you can notice at times, I think it was in his fight against Weaver
where he would jab and move a bit and then almost have to re adjust
because he was a little to far over himself. Weaver was to faded by
that time to capitalise on it I suppose.
I will have to re wathc that but I do recall thinking that when watching
that bout.

In the Ruddock-Jackson fight, you could see that Razor was fighting a
clean, boxer type of bout and dominates for the most part. Which was
impressive considering Jackson was a pretty solid fighter at that time.
Patterson was all about tha jab from the corner in that bout.

Patterson started training Ruddock after the two Tyson fights, in a doomed to fail bid to make him load up less & box more.

He stayed with for his three 1992 fights: Greg Page, Phil Jackson and Lennox Lewis. Ruddock seemed to ignore his instructions & go out trying to smash his opponents round after round, though spoke very fondly of Patterson in the pre-fight chats.

When Ruddock finally resurfaced in 1994 for the Anthony Wade fight on a Don King undercard, Patterson was gone.
