according to the book he didn't spar either.
Roy's full of shit, James.
Why on earth would he want to lie about that though?

I have to agree with flawed here, Roy is full of shit..... its an ego thing..... you have a great physique and you try make yourself seem more super human by suggesting you didnt lift....
same mentally of those guys at school who got good exam results but said they never did any revision...
Roy didn't do sparring is something I refuse to believe, however him not doing weights is quite believable.
As long as he is burning the fat (i.e. through running) he will always look good. He has a good physique but having a good physique could come through fat burning exercise and dieting.
I just recently suffered from a something similar to shin splints and as a result have cut down (make that cut out temporaily) my running. My sit ups are good (as good as before the injury) but because I'm not doing the much cardio my stomach doesn't look quite what it should be.
A Frank Bruno build is what I call the build of a guy on a huge weight training regieme (companied with the cardio). Roy isn't built like Bruno, his arms are not huge, yes he's not build like a middle distance runner. but then a hitting the heavybag will get you arms bigger than normal.
Slow runs are not great for shifting flab, big myth that to try and entice fat people to come to the gym. Yes, in PREPORTION to the amount of work done, low intensity cardio exercise is better at removing flab. However, if you work a low intensity one week and high intensity the other, you will lose more flat in the higher one.
Frank Bruno only ever did light weights in his workouts. There's plenty of fighters who never used weights in their programmes.
as Stu said, pounding the heavy bag, using the speedbag and the floor to ceiling bag will all develop the muscles in the arms.
If Roy Jones did do sparring then it isn't listed in his workout, and it's listed for everyone else in the book except for Nigel Benn, who made a point of not sparring.

With regards to Benn, and I may be wrong here but I am of the understanding that it was only in the later years of his career that he drasticaly cut down on his sparring.
I understand that through most of his 12st Championship years Benn would often spar less than a dozen round preparing for a fight.
yes I think that's right, early in his career i think he did sparring, but later on he said something along the lines of 'I'll leave the fighting for the ring.'
