******* pathetic! :witzend:

i see groves as probably 1 of the top 5 prospects we have at the min, and hes fighting complete 5hit.

there is no point and i mean absolute no point in him fighting this guy. what r his team doing?

its not even like you can say well this kid has good experience or hes a big banger, or even he will give him a few things to think about.
its a joke.

at this stage its about learning your trade, the only thing he will learn of this fight is how easy it is to make money for doing piss all.
im not having a go at groves, but his advisers need there heads testing. seriously the people advising him must have been in the game for years and years, and this is the best opponent they can come up with :KO:

any1 who knows nothing about boxing could do better by just looking at the top 10 at his weight in the uk and say couldnt he fight 1 of them,

Could they not match him domestically? (Or did they not want to?)

Understand the frustration, but he was scheduled to box on the Mosley v Berto card so that was the reason why we didn't have a stiff test lined up.
However, there have been three opponents pull out during the course of this week and this is a last minute opponent.
As most people in the game that make the matches will tell you, there is not a great deal to choose from when it gets to last minute pull outs around the super middle and light heavy divisions.

To be fair, he has previously been matched with decent opponents and will be stepped back up next time out.

Against who? I don't think there are many to choose from. Nathan King could be an option, but he's down to fight Tony Jeffries in a few weeks. Maybe if someone like Prince Arron could be persuaded, that would be good?

You're right in that there aren't too many to choose from for this date. But Prince Arron is a light middle mate.

I didn't realise Prince Arron was fighting so low. I remember him fighting Duddy above 160 lbs. I guess it really is down to imports, outside of a select few, unless Groves is going to really step it up (Thirlwall, Dodson, Quigley, Smith).

Arron was a really late replacement for Duddy if I remember correctly. Had a lot of respect for him coming over to Ireland at short notice and fighting Duddy in front of a partisan crowd. Think it was his second fight in a week too. Havn't really followed him since then but hope he is doing alright for himself, still must be young enough - wasn't he only 19 when he boxed Duddy.

I am Surprized George has not really been tested and has been talking about titles........... While Degale, and jeffreys are moving up a level in there next fights..................................,Kenny anderson would of been a good test his fight fell through,Theres plenty Supermiddles and light heavy domestically if the money there.

Bit unfair that last comment. Firstly, Matt Barr, decent though he is, is no step up from Nathan King, who Chunky way have struggled with over 6 or 8. secondly, Groves was down to fight Barr last summer, Matt pulled out injured then fought not long after. Yes, this looks a gimme for Groves but the guy's never been stopped and is bigger. could be worse, far more protected fighters out there now

For those who are grumbling about the opponent, remember as d mentioned, he was due to fight on the Mosley-berto undercard. So it would have been foolish to put him in a potentially hard fight only two weeks before his next bout. How were his team supposed to know that the card would be cancelled? In any case I think Groves is definitely going places and to beat Samuels the way he did in only his third bout speaks volumes about his potential. A decent test at this stage would be Michael Monaghan, followed by perhaps a fight for the english title.

Incidently, Matthew Barr is down to fight James Degale next month.

i like it. michael mognahan is a great call, he is as tough as they come, tries to win, but does not too often.

I like Groves his opponant doesnt look that capable but he's still learning and it will be good for him to get in the ring.

Does anyone know whether the Mosley v Berto card is going ahead without Berto?

i guess anyfight is better than no fight, so hats off to team groves for actually coming up with someone that is even remotely open for healthy debate.

Think the whole card is gone pal. Wouldn't have made financial sense to go ahead without the two main fights - Mosley/Berto and Johnson/Mack
