alex reid..... pro boxing?
alex reid..... pro boxing?
strange thread though this might be, is it not beyond the realms of possibility that a promoter, seeing pound signs in his eyes, (and with all the publicity that reid has got in celebrity BB and from his on/off relationship with katie price/andre/jordan ....) might just try and sign reid for a dip into the pro boxing ranks?
ive seen stranger things happen. its all about bums on seats and money after all, and i think reid has proved himself a half decent fella on celeb BB, obviously not being the sharpest knife in the box, he does seem a half decent guy. he would certainly fill the hall with lots of punters, especially if his plastic girlfriend came along too.

one of his fights, MMA, that i saw on you tube.

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
He's more intelligent than people think. I agree that he seems a nice guy. He said he has won over 40 kickboxing contests, so he would have some good experience for it. However, I think he'll want to improve the exposure of MMA in Britain.
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
maybe so mate, but if a promoter is switched on, and offers him 50k for a 4 fight deal over 6 or 12 months, i bet they would recuperate their money...and some.
its not as if he has to be matched hard, its all about bums on seats, winning and looking good too, tv will be interested for sure.
personally id rather watch alex reid fight than watching bloody womens boxing.

I hope Reid wins Celebrity BB. He's keeping himself in shape, doing a bit of training, which is a positive thing to do. As for him going into Pro Boxing, I'm not so sure. I mean, even though he has had kick-boxing bouts, is in condition, he could get seriously hurt!
What weight would he box at?

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
im not sure what weight he is mate, but although developed he does look a bit soft, im presuming he would be roughly a LH as a pro boxer.Rocky Balboa wrote:I hope Reid wins Celebrity BB. but i was looking along the angle of a pro boxing promoter approaching him, and not vice versa. cleverly and easily matched, he could earn the promoter a good deal of dosh.
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
According to Wikipedia he's 183 pounds.
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
i think LH is 174 so that could/should be reasonable
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
I don't think he would do that good. He has lost to some ordinary MMA guys like Jason Tan.
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
He was there to watch the WCFC show and was working his way through the champagne when he was asked to step in and face Tan at the last minute.chris s wrote:I don't think he would do that good. He has lost to some ordinary MMA guys like Jason Tan.

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
He is from my area and is a bit of a tit but can be a nice guy.
He tried to get in the ufc ultimate fighter and failed..he fights k1 rules kick boxing in uk challenge now..i saw him fight a while back in bracknell few years ago he won but was found to be wearing tiger balm an vaseline which is illegal in mma his opponent was blinded and could not hold on to him to get submission..tiger balm in the eyes aint that nice..
To slow for boxing and his chin aint that great.

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
I saw him in the UFC trials. I found it really odd. He had everything set up to win, but just seemed to faff about and show-boat.
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
Yep a promoter could make money of his name.... although I have some doubts they'd make the money they'd like to think. I mean, okay his "fame" status is not in the same league as Alex's - but Curtis Woodhouse had a fair amount of publicity when turning pro - he's hardly setting the world alight box office wise.
Alex would earn plenty more selling his story than he would by boxing. I would really respect him if he stuck at it now (boxing, mma whatever aslong as its a proper job).. because his career potential by doing nothing than being a celebrity would be much more.... especially with Jordan, who is a master of publicity - we will have the "break up", the reunion, the break up, the engagement, the fight for the kids, - each one worth hundreds of thousands to the couple.
The important issue is also TV and how Sky insist on a main event being for a title... you don't expect Alex to go straight for title fights - so he will be an undercard fighter.... and a damn expensive one. He might get another TV company interested (I'm thinking Bravo) but could a minority channel afford him?

Reid is a journeyman.
He made heavy work of destroying that snow man in the Big Brother garden
Can you imagine if he was in there with someone who acutally hit him back

I honestly disagree
Maccarenelli - despite his destruction at the hands of Haye - was / is a pro who has fought at a good level
In a cage - Reid may well beat him
In a ring - I think Maccarenelli would cripple him over with body shots.

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
I dont think the money in pro boxing would appeal to him.He is probably getting 50k plus in the big brother house. To get that boxing he would have to get to European level at leaast. From what i have seen of him on the pads(with Stephen Baldwin,Basshunter and Vinnie Jones!!)he looks very limited,he would get a good hiding from virtually every pro i have seen, and most amateurs...
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
I think anyone who follows mma knows Reid isn't very good at all. He'd get absolutely hammered in a boxing ring. He's also a middle aged man and is well past his physical prime. We're not talking about Bernard Hopkins here.
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
I remember not so long ago Calzaghe said he would fight him as he is mates with Peter Andre and would do it for him.
Maybe a charity fight between them.....that would maybe get people paying money to watch it live, maybe even TV would be interested????

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
If Media reports are to be believed he is getting a hefty £175,000 - one of the highest paid in there - good money for someone who was a complete unknown this time last year.mickey1975 wrote:I dont think the money in pro boxing would appeal to him.He is probably getting 50k plus in the big brother house. To get that boxing he would have to get to European level at leaast. From what i have seen of him on the pads(with Stephen Baldwin,Basshunter and Vinnie Jones!!)he looks very limited,he would get a good hiding from virtually every pro i have seen, and most amateurs...
Vinnie Jones is the highest paid on reports saying he is getting from £350,000 up to £500,000.
I agree - he looks very limited on the pads - not to mention knackered.

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
Did anybody notice his sleep fighting when Dane Bowers screamed and woke everybody up? It was hilarious! he jumps out of bed still fast asleep with his hands up by his chin and starts walking forward like the first bell has just gone. Classic! A proper fighter!

Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
i know hes only ticking over in there, but his padwork didnt look very good. He drops his hands loads after punching and when kicking. I dont know much bout MMA but from what ive seen they dont seem to train with too much intensity, its like they just go through the motions. I think its all a bit "jack of all trades, master of none".
Re: alex reid..... pro boxing?
I didn't notice that the first time. It's awesome!!!demolitiondaley wrote:Did anybody notice his sleep fighting when Dane Bowers screamed and woke everybody up?
