seatanta ireland showing magee - larsen on jan 30th

Post by jspain »

setanta ireland are showing the brain magee fight live on jan 30th.

im not sure british people will get to see this live. its good news for irish folk though. setanta ireland have been upping their boxing coverage lately and it makes the 16.99 per month somewhat more justifiable.

this was on the setanta ireland website

Setanta Ireland will broadcast live coverage of the European Super Middleweight Title Fight between Lisburn boxer Brian Magee and Danish fighter Mads ‘The Golden Boy’ Larsen on Saturday January 30th next.

Setanta’s live coverage of the fight will be presented by legendary broadcaster Steve Bunce and commentary will be from Will Downing.

Buncey will be joined in studio by European Light Welterweight Champion Paul McCloskey for analysis of the bout.

The fight is set to take place at the NRGi Arena in the city of Aarhus in Denmark and Fight Night begins at 8.45pm on Setanta Ireland

Heard about this a while back and have been debating whether to renew my subscripton or not. I cancelled Setanta around October last year because I got fed up of watching bog standard motorsports. I think I'm going to renew it and see does the boxing coverage continue and if it does - happy days, if not - bye bye Setanta again! Will be good to see Buncey back on the box, he is always interesting and cuts to the point.

There is a lot of goodwill in the offices of Setanta.
I'm hoping that this is just the start of another beautiful relationship.
I'm trying to arrange an email address for the usual fight-night carnage.

Adios.

Hopefully, I will open up an email connect for the night.
Let's hope that it is the start of something more serious.

Adios.

Should be able to, unless they block it out for Northern Irish viewers like they do with Premier League football and (i think) F1. But thats more down to rights issues regarding those events-3pm kick-offs and everything.

If your in NI, and it's on your EPG I can't see why they'd not let you watch it.

Not unless your local Irish centre has a "hooky" Irish SKY card which many do.

I know one in south Manchester that does so I will be headin over there.

Amid the distressing news of the death of Midlands warrior Ernie Smith, boxing continues and Brian Magee continues to show what good, strong boxing can do for a man when he faces Mads Larsen for the vacant European super-middleweight title tomorrow night in Denmark (January 30).
Southpaw Magee, a 34-year-old from Belfast, makes a decent living from the sport because he lives well and is fundamentally solid - not exceptional and not a banger – just solid. He sounds very much like Ernie used to, although anyone who goes 11 rounds with current WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch (admittedly an injured Froch) and was once 48 hours away from a WBO title showdown with Welsh great Joe Calzaghe is obviously solid at a higher level. The European title is Magee's level but he’s never won it and won’t beat Larsen, who brings more power to the table and fights in his own hometown of Aarhus.
Larsen has also held the EBU belt before, outscoring Germany’s then unbeaten Danilo Haussler for it in Germany in 2003. The aggressive, multi-tattooed Dane (shades of Mikkel Kessler) then dropped off the radar completely due to the kind of promotional in-fighting that sadly blights our game and – worse, much worse - scuppered a natural showdown with Kessler which still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of every Danish fight fan – and of many neutrals.
Now almost 37, a southpaw like Magee, Larsen returned to the sport in 2007 and has won his last six but goes over old ground as Kessler prepares for a marquee fight in Denmark in April against Froch (and is already rich enough to live in Monaco). Oh well, Larsen, who once held Sven Ottke to a majority decision in Germany, can clearly still go a bit at 51-2 (38). The only other man to beat him, by the way, is Britain’s Trevor Ambrose, on cuts back in 1996.
To this result, and Magee, who has a pretty good chin, puts up a typically solid show on the way to a points defeat - but you wonder where Larsen goes next.
