Froch v Kessler - Update needed
I have booked my flight and reserved a room in Copenhagen for two nights, but I cannot find any info about tickets or where to get them from.
I have also heard that the fight might be in Herning, which is a nowhere place about 4 hours from Copenhagen by train. Will be gutted if they don`t stage it in Hagen.
Copenhagen in the springtime will be great, so whatever happens I`ll still be going to Hagen for the Friday night, then head over to Herning on the Saturday.
Anybody have any info in respect of tickets and/or venue?

Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
It will be decieded this week. There are 4 venues competing for it, 2 in Copenhagen, one in Herning and a "secret".
Herning is close to the Karup and Billund airports.

By close, you mean an hour's drive. Herning is in the middle of nowhere. I desperately hope it's Copenhagen, great city, if expensive. Wouldn't bother going if it was Herning.
Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
I'm in pretty much the same boat as forcefraser. Thanks for the info frieheit
Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
Keep hearing Herning, which is a ballache to get to. I think Billund is the nearest airport where there's direct UK flights
Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
I've chasing up this information constantly but i can't add any more than Freiheit.
Herning is a strange one though. It really does seem to be in the middle of nowhere but for some reason the biggest convention centre in Europe is there.

4 hours on train from Copenhagen to Herning, return ticket is about £90. How miserable is that? Doesn't Hennessy have any say at all in this?
Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
Britain's Carl Froch continues his quest for the world No. 1 grail at super-middleweight when he defends his WBC title against Denmark's dangerous Mikkel Kessler in the middle of nowhere on April 17.
The Nottingham strongman has seen off the top class trio of Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor and Andre Dirrell in his last three fights and is close to to a mouthwatering showdown with unbeaten American star Andre Ward in boxing's new blue-riband division – the man who licked Kessler so impressively in 11 rounds in the States in November. However, former Olympic gold medallist Ward and retired Welsh great Joe Calzaghe are the only men to have beaten Kessler in 44 outings. The "Viking Warrior", as Kessler is hailed, has never lost in Denmark where this fight takes place a short plane ride from Kessler's former home city of Copenhagen. Kessler, who now lords it in Monte Carlo, clearly wants to make amends for the long, frustrating, painful Ward night. This looms as yet another daunting match for our throwback champion.
Unbeaten in 26 fights (20 early), Froch brings size, strength, stamina, underrated boxing skills and real fighting spirit to the big fight. His defence is loose and he climbed off the floor to halt former undisputed world middleweight champion Jermain Taylor in the States last year, but proved his mettle and that experience away from home looks vital.
Kessler is tough, brave, hard-hitting and fundamentally complete. Ward proved too quick and mobile for him but, give Kessler a target, and he looks the part; let us face it, Froch is not exceptionally quick or lateral but his chin, Taylor apart, holds up brilliantly, although Kessler also has granite in his jaw. The Dane, by the way, has shown his ambition in the build-up by hiring veteran American trainer Jimmy Montoya, who has coached world champs Juan "Kid" Meza and Hector Camacho, among many others.
Undoubtedly we will witness plenty of bruising head-to-head exchanges in April, in a long, hard, barnstorming fight. Kessler, a year younger than Froch at 31, might be the more battle-worn of the two, a pro since 1998. He spilt plenty of claret against Ward, often the sign of an ageing fighter, but looks too good to go down without anything but a real fight.
Froch looks every bit as good, an irresistable force, a man with no fear, no respect for reputations. He scoffs at the old boxing bugbears, such as that of travel. Nicknamed "The Cobra", his long arms enable him to whip in heavy hooks and uppercuts from range.
Arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in Britain at the moment, Froch proves too venemous on the way to a thrilling and close decision.

Yes, it's one of those under-the-radar fights right now. People don't seem to be taking Kessler seriously enough. I hope Team Hennessy is.MachoMan09 wrote:Nice write-up, bennie. That said, I disagree with your prediction. I reckon Kessler will sneak it. I hope you're right, though.

Another way to get to Herning is to fly with Ryanair to Billund Airport, from there its takes an hour or so with public transportation.gobbles wrote:Bennyblanco wrote:Heard today its definately going to be in herning. Screw Herning.
Putting it there just shows how little Sauerland care about making this tournament a world event. It's not as if Kessler is even from Herning, he comes from Copenhagen.
It's like putting the final of this tournament in somewhere like Kansas. Sauerland just look cheap.
Is there even going to be any British TV? Stuck between Haye, Khan and Hatton, this fight could just end up slipping under the radar completely. And in America, with a 5pm or so start time and no later fight now Taylor is out, it might go unnoticed there too.

Definitely, in the 'Current Scene' a lot of people think Kessler is crap now.bennie wrote:Yes, it's one of those under-the-radar fights right now. Kessler won't have any of the problems he had against Ward, when he fights Froch. Rather than overconfidence, he'll now have to make sure he doesn't suffer from a lack of confidence. Froch should try jumping on him from the start, imo.
Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
Given that Kessler is half-English, perhaps they should opt for somewhere completely neutral and go for Scotland.

Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
I see that old Frochy is standing his ground and fighting for Copenhagen instead of Herning.
Too right as well. He is the champion and he will lose a lot of live support should the fight be in Herning. I have checked with some Danes I know and they say that Herning is a one horse town. Quite what 20 odd thousand fans are going to do there after the fight is a question the promoters obviosuly don`t care about.
I have hotels reserved in Herning just in case, but I really hope to avoid a mashing 4 hour train journey from Copenhagen.
When in Copenhagen, give Christiania a try. Great place.

I wonder if Carl is getting cold feet?He didnt seem to bothered about his fans having to travel a lot further to Mashantucket for the Taylor fight, did he?There is a Danish guy on here who says there is no problem with the place at all.

I`ve been to Denmark many times. There is no doubt that having the fight in Copenhagen is a far better alternative than Herning. Copenhagen is cheap and easy to get to and is great night out, which is important for many travelling fans.mickey1975 wrote:There is a better thread on this on Current Scene where the Danish poster gives more details on the site.Top venue by all accounts, and accessible.
I`m not saying that Herning is not a good venue, but the Shlacke stadium in Germany was a good venue for the Klitschko v Chagaev fight, but it didn`t change the fact that it was a pain to get to and was a shithole place for a bevvy.

Ive never been there but,as i said, the Danish guy reckoned it was good.Anyway,Nottingham isnt London but Dirrell never complained.I only bring it up as its the first "diva" behaviour from Froch, something many on here thought he was incapable of.forcefraser wrote:I`ve been to Denmark many times. I dont think its diva behavoir at all, not yet anyway he's just looking out for his fans and should be applauded for it. If you read the posts above, you will see many fans have already booked flights to Copenhagen and are clearly upset at the news its going to be in Herning. I would too if i was in there position.mickey1975 wrote:Ive never been there but,as i said, the Danish guy reckoned it was good.Anyway,Nottingham isnt London but Dirrell never complained.I only bring it up as its the first "diva" behaviour from Froch, something many on here thought he was incapable of.forcefraser wrote:I`ve been to Denmark many times. Froch aint being a diva just yet, he's playing his cards in order to get what he wants. However, if the fight does not get moved to Copenhagen and Froch altogether refuses to fight in Herning resulting in the fight getting cancelled, then granted, i too would call him a bit of a diva.

If he is genuinely looking out for the fans, then fair play to him.And after finding myself with a useless ticket to Dussledorf after the Haye withdrawal,i hope nobody is out of pocket.
Re: Froch v Kessler - Update needed
the British are some of the loudest and Most outgoing supporters in the world.
It dont take a genius as to why saulerland suddenly changed the location in wake of kessler's loss to ward.
They need to stack absolutely every detail in kessler's favour, cos if he loses he finished and out of the tournament. His signing was supposed to be the start of big things, yet now they have a potential serial loser on their hands plus a potential legal battle with palle too.
There are scores of people who follow froch all booked for copenhagen based on what was previously verbally discussed and they are screwed because of this.

If the fight is close Froch will not get a decision. He will need to make sure Mick H presses fort judges they trust.
