Re: U-19
I'm glad that they made the age determination date April 12th because I turn 17 in March so this means I can participate in this tournament. Can't wait.
Re: U-19
this is bad how they suddenly changed the age determination date. now only 1992 and 1993 can participate. That takes our guy out of the tounament. I dont think this is fare for he was born 1991 but will be 18 for both the national and the world tounaments. this doesent make sence "UNDER 19"? does anyone know if their is anything we can do to make them change it back to the way they had it at fist. maybe write the AIBA a letter or have USA boxing do it? anything?
Re: U-19
Writing a letter didn't work in 2008 as they did the same thing. The paperwork said you could be 19 after the tournament, but switched before the tournament started and allowed only boxers who were born in 1990 and 1991 that year. So not surprised
Re: U-19
Thanx. Thats too bad man, and definitely not fair for some boxers who were really looking forward to it.
... I was also wondering. so I have a boxer still a jo boxing and can still compete in the jr.olympic Nationals.
does anyone know if he can compete in the U-19 tournament and still come back and compete in the jr.olympics. he is 16 was born 1993??? anyone know???

Re: U-19
Actually, the Coaches-International Task Force just had a conference call on the ages, dates, etc. The CITF is recommending to the BOD that for the US U-19 tournament that is being used as a quailifier for the world youth championships, USAB use the dates from AIBA which means USAB could have a 16 year old box in the US U-19 tournament. The task force is also recommending that if a 16 year old boxer potentially wins the U-19 National Championship and qualifies for the Youth Worlds he should not be penalized per current USA Boxing rules and be allowed to return and box in the Junior Olympic Tournament. Lastly, they are also recommending that the USAB Rules and Regulation Task Force research the alignment of USA Boxing age determination rules with AIBA rules that state: 1.1.4 “The age of a boxer is determined using the year of birth.” (SEE BELOW). Alignment with AIBA will make our age determination rules cleaner and conform to international standards.Dennis wrote:If he boxes in the U-19, he is boxing as a Senior boxer. Once he boxes in a senior tournament he can no longer box in JO tournaments. This is true unless USAB and AIBA give an exemption for this U-19 tournament.
The AIBA rules are being amended and will be as follows concerning Age classification:
1.1.1. Men and women Boxers between the ages of 19 - 34 are categorized as Elite Boxers. Youth Boxers are permitted to participate in Elite competitions as per rules applicable to Elite Boxers.
1.1.2. Boy and Girl Boxers between the ages of 17 to 18 are categorized as Youth Boxers.
1.1.3. Boy and Girl Boxers between the ages of 15 to 16 are categorized as Junior Boxers.
1.1.4. The age of a Boxer is determined using the year of birth.
1.1.5. All competitions related to school boys and girls and all other younger age Boxers are managed by only National Federations and at Confederation levels. The age of these Boxers shall not be over 14 years old. The range of the ages of these Boxers participating in these competitions shall not be more than 2 years.

The tourney is 3 weeks away, when are they going to figure this out! I'm sure there are a few 16-year-olds that would like to compete in this tournament.JMac wrote:Actually, the Coaches-International Task Force just had a conference call on the ages, dates, etc. The CITF is recommending to the BOD that for the US U-19 tournament that is being used as a quailifier for the world youth championships, USAB use the dates from AIBA which means USAB could have a 16 year old box in the US U-19 tournament. I believe the recommendation has to go to the Rules and Regulations Task Force for review and a yes or no vote. It could happen before the tournament. The tourney is 3 weeks away, when are they going to figure this out! I'm sure there are a few 16-year-olds that would like to compete in this tournament
