Sorry, thought you were being sarcastic.
Carlos-Wigan wrote: You know - why does Khan attract this hatred I am not saying any one paticular person hates him because of his racial orgins or religious beliefs - but didn't Chris Eubank not kill someone with his crap driving but look through the threads about him - he's brilliant, a loveable eccentric, hard as nails etc and Naz - he has had his moments behind the wheel - and why don't we hate Ricky Hatton - he binned his trainer, was protected by Fwank AND has an annoying brother.

But I will put money on this - there will be many people who hate Amir Khan and it will have nothing to do with his driving skills, his boxing career or how he treats his ex trainers - give me that at least eh?
You're probably right that there are some who dislike him simply for being a muslim - I just have faith that these people arent the majority of the haters. I suppose Khan is post 9/11 , with Naz being pre 9/11.

Well - he was given a prime ITV saturday night main event slot for a AMATEUR fight - where he was presented his Olympic Conquerer on a plate in his own country - to regain revenge - (so he could claim to be the Olympic Champ really kind of thing)

He was a millionaire before he turned professional at 17/18 years old.

He had autobiographys released when he was a teenager

He had DVDS released charting his career to date when he was still a novice

He had Reebook signing him up in £2 million deals to waer their clothes and advertise their products in glossy magazines.

He had a big house for the family before he had even won a belt as a professional.

He was driving around in super cars worth £100,000 that the vast majority of British pro boxers could never afford.

And he had the top lawyers to get him off lightly on a serious incident where he mowed someone over in his car.

He was barely a Commonwealth Champion and they already started him as a pay per view fighter.

Then only a couple of fights after being KO'd in the 1st round - he was handed a World title fight on a platter.

I cant think of any British Boxer - White or Black or Asian - who has been handed such super star treatment.[/quote]

We are talking about the fans aren't we?

They boo him for no reason.

You get posters on here who want to see him get knocked out - ask them their reason - they would be reasons that could be aimed at near enough every top flight boxer promoted by allegedly.

As for his last amateur fight being televised - wasn't it against Kindelan and wasn't it his last fight as an amateur? You know - 17 year old boxing medalists are hard to come by in any country - thats why he got the star treatment off promoters and the media.

He has been backing it up - beating a former silver olympic medalist very convincingly for his WBA title.

Lastly - the reception he got off his own COUNTRYMEN at the Hatton vs Pacman weigh in was nothing short of a DISGRACE. Or do you think that was acceptable?

Well I cant comment on this as I didnt witness it - but its not like he is the only fighter who has ever been booed or disliked - people cant stand Audley Harrison - people disliked Eubank and Naz -

Khan was / is - a big headed flashy youngster - who has got special treatment ..........that causes resentment in alot of people.

Not everyone who dislikes Khan is because he happens to be a Asian / Muslim, etc.

Im sorry but I couldnt give a hoot if Khan was black, white or pink with yellow spots I stopped supporting him during the bust up with Oliver Harrison and the treatment of a man Ive met many times, and a man who welcomed me into his gym to watch and interview the guys he was training. The way "team khan" treated and sacked Oliver was disgraceful and I'll boo the fecker if I want to - my choice.

"He's your countryman" - Is this reverse racism now? I must support Khan over barrera because barrera isnt british... errr... no... I'll support the fighter I want to support for my own personal reasons.

As it happens im now back on the Khan bandwagon, why?, because I effing well want to be.
I am of exactly the same view - my initial intense dislike for Amir Khan was due to the way he treat Olly Harrison.

Then all of the B*llocks slating this country and the fans and how he prefers it in the US put the icing on the cake and lit the candles.

I am delighted Khan has f*cked off to the states - I hope he gets beaten and it happens soon then the myth of Khan can dissapear and we can discuss a boxer which is worthwhile.

Good riddance to him.

Amir is a good lad. He may have had people around him who have been knobs over the years, but he, as an individual, is OK.
I truly cannot stand the man - One of my old Commanding Officers in the Army was eventually posted to a position in the MOD - he informed me a couple or so years ago Khan was meant to hand out some medals to some lads who had fought in Iraq - he didnt - the lads were left hanging around outside Khan's gym before they were even let in - what was meant to be a medal presentation to the lads was watered down to a PR stunt for Khan - yet another reason why I have an intense dislike for the man!!! - there are others!!!

Well I think Khan is going to be around for a long time - knocking on the door of world class even if he gets dethroned. So I think he will be discussed for a while to come - and quite rightly also, love him or hate him there aren't many British boxers better.

I think Carlos makes a good point about the love for Hatton and the dislike for Khan. I aint saying its racial still, but there are inconsistencies - Hatton got rid of Billy Graham in poor fashion also - even allowing his next trainer continually slag off the man who helped him achieve the ulitimate goal in the sports. Sure people will say what "team" Hatton did was wrong, but the emphasis is for the "team" side. Does anyone note think Khan wasn't advised to ditch Harrison.

Its not nice when a relationship is broken down, but nobody (now, after a defeat) can say that its not been a good long term decision in terms of Khan's progression. No disrepect to Oliver, but Khan's a better boxer now - perhaps he always would have learned under Harrison - we don't know, but we do know he has under Roach.

Valid points.

However the manner in which Olly Harrison was dumped was in my view nothing short of a complete disgrace in my humble opinion.

You also make a valid point concerning "Team" - I dont dislike Ricky Hatton whatsoever although I know some who do - it is what comes with Ricky I have a dislike for. so yes you make an extremely valid point concerning Amir and his relationship with Olly Harrison - There is a view that I have heard on many occasions that "The Team" has a big influence on Khan - whether that is true or not - who knows.

I suppose what makes your point even more valid is I had a conversation with 2 seperate people who were close with Ricky at stages in his career - when I stated Ricky was not the problem I was quickly told do not be fooled - I have got to say I am not convinced - however there is a thought that sometimes boxers conveniently turn a blind eye on what is going on behind the scenes when in reality they are more than aware.

It is one of those rare occasions Stu  - your points have got me thinking.

Nobody likes medal presentations, though, mate. You know that as well as me. Far better your OC to sling it across a table to you, rather than having to put 2s on, do your boots etc.
Didnt get that many medals mate!!! - got turned down for my Long Service and Good Conduct one - the conduct part of it was a problem and I was told no matter what mitigating circumstances my commanding officer at the time put in for me - there wasnt a chance I would ever get that medal.

Going back to your point concerning what this particular CO told me - he is normally extremely reliable with his info - although he did caveat that with maybe Amir Khan didnt know and it was a cock up by one of his team.

I will also add, that whilst I will never begrudge a boxer to change a trainer.... its their time all boxers have a limited shelf life and if changes are needed (even if its just in their own mind) to fulfill the potential then, I will not begrudge them (sure do it with dignity and clarity).

HOWEVER, the point I must add is that in the aftermath of both the Hatton and Khan splits, this forum talked about the boxers (and trainers) future. However, I never got the opportunity to say a big respect to the way both Oliver Harrison and Billy Graham conducted themselves during the split. Dignified the pair of them.... Oliver kept a public silence and got on with his other fighters and Billy, whilst disagreeing with Gareth Williams' claims about his health, never was publically critical of Ricky.

Fantastic really.

Are people really that dim on here ? Khan got booed on stage because he'd been sparring Pacquiao and high-fived Roach as he came on. Hardly a 'countryman' thing to do eh? side up with the enemy at the weigh-in.

He's proved himself to be a turncoat with their firing of Oliver Harrison, their firing of the Cuban, then walking away from Frank as soon as he got a title.

Sorry but ive now just read on the ESPN Rafael blog that Khan will defo duck Maidana, because he wants 'an American' for his debut.

Utter Bollocks.

He gazumped a lot of names at 140 to 'buy' his title shot at Kotelinik

If you or or your cronies are reading then do the proper thing and defend it - dont use your money to bend the rules and swerve Maidana, give them a legit defence of the bloody title.

However I'd say the only difference really is that we now have a record of these arguments. Definitely among boxing fans there was just as much of a clamour for Benn/Eubank-Graham, if not more, than there has been for Khan-Murray/Thaxton, just we don't have fan forum evidence from the time.

To look at something more timely - do you think in 5-10 years' time, people will denigrate Hatton's wins over Tszyu, Castillo, Malignaggi et al because he didn't fight Witter? Of course people will remember this, but I don't think it will harm his legacy any more than Eubank's or Benn's were harmed by not fighting Graham. And Hatton is of the internet era.
Personally, I don't recall the clamour for Benn, Eubank or for that matter Watson to face Graham
Down the pub they were saying how Bomber would stand Eubank on his head. I remember that

Carlos,

You too come out with some very valid points - but what is your stance on the "loyalty" question - do you honestly believe Khan was right to kick W arren into touch especially when considering what W arren has done for Khan after the Prescott debacle?

Secondly and again its concerning loyalty - why do you and others excuse Khan for his comments concerning the UK and its boxing fans albeit he was commenting on the minority? it is at best extremely bad PR on Khan's part to be so forthcoming concerning his views about boxing fans in this country - expecially when it is those very fans who have paid so much for their tickets.

I will go onto Khan's abilities - clearly offensively Khan has world class speed and skills - but now he and Golden Boy have stated a desire to take the US by storm do you honestly think he has the abilities to take on the very best elite fighters the world has to offer - those very fighters who will not allow Khan to dominate all of the time and on occasions who will put Khan on his back foot where his frailities will be magnified big time and at some stage in his career in world class company Khan will have his chin tested - do you think he will come through those tests.

Finally I will go back to the loyalty issue - some people have stated on here its disgraceful to slate a British Boxer like Khan - to them I state "B*llocks" - what loyalty has Khan shown to this countries boxing fans other than articles clearly stating claims of RACISM and ABUSE - where are his articles about how well this countries boxing fans have done for him by buying tickets to watch him!!!

My user name is not a nod towards Bazooka Gomez... my name is Gomez. But i'm i'm as British as they come, my grandad had chunks blown out of him in WW2 by the japs, whilst assisted by the Gurkha's in Burma.

He did that for freedom of speech...

And if i think Amir Khan Ltd is a pile of shit then i will bloody well say so.

It has sod all to do with his colour. Anyone who reads my posts know i'm not a fan of Calzaghe's record either.

I'm a boxing fan first and foremost..not a 'business fan' and could not care a shit which fighter brings the most money/minimum risk.

I just want to see legit fights between boxers who deserve it. And that is the basis for my whole argument.

You see where i'm coming from ? don't try to pigeon hole anyone displeased with these developments as someone with some sort of sub-agenda.

Is amir Khan the only only boxer ever to have left his trainers/promoter? Is he the only boxer to duck or avoid other fighters and get carefully matched up to a point? If the answer is yes to the above two questions then your criticisms maybe justified but the answer is no so there are other reasons at play, maybe his arrogance, ohhh he would be the first pugilist to be umm ultra confident and arrogant or maybe the trash talk? wow Froch, Witter, Hamed etc etc never trash talked anyone have they?

@Gomez - You are getting irrational in you replies the more you defend your hatred of Khan. What it has to do with Christ or Allah? and your grandfather died for freedom of speesh?..Ohh yeah the Japanese were really breathing down our necks just off the Cornish coast and announicng they were going to eliminate certain topics from discussion forever..lol, you dont need to prescribe to Bushesque rhetoric to justify your dislike of Khan and "japs" is a racial slur for people of Japanese descent much like p@@ki.

Murray and Thaxton did just as much talking as Khan and as far as I can tell, they never agreed terms either. In fact, those two made names (or tried to) for themselves simply by calling out Khan rather than producing the results to force the issue, and Khan's trash talking of them was merely his response.

Furthermore, the only reason Khan's trash talking got more coverage is because he's the bigger name, and thus more likely to be reported on. Simple.
oliver, on a point of timescale i very definitely recall that khan made the first move re trashtalking with thaxton

from memory the timescale was, khan interview 'all these british lightweights better fight me now before i am above their level'

response from Thaxton, 'brilliant i'd love to fight him'

response from khan' 'all these british lightweights talking about me and trying to cash in on my name, i will have to show them etc etc etc blah blah blah'

i definitely remember he threw the first verbal at thaxton, and then made out like it was thaxton who started it all.

Hello Spud,

I think what Khan has done is what most boxers do. Like football players today they show loyalty only to themselves. They will change circumstances at a drop of a hat to suit themselves and they have all done it whilst maintaining a 'man in the street' persona, if you can manage to see past that then without prejudice you have to admit Khan is no more a sinner than any of his contemporaries. I'll agree that Khan does not have that likeable 'man in the street' persona that the average lager lout can relate to but to treat Khan and make him out to be a villian and boo him is wrong - everything Khan has meant to have done - other boxers have done also.

Truth is always bad PR Spud, Is it true what Khan is saying? I think it is but others disagree, no-one has to like Khan - I mean there are boxers I don't like either - Sam Sexton, the Walsh brothers, but I will give credit where its due and admit that Sam Sexton (especially) has plenty you positive traits. Its OK to come out with anti-Khan spiel about his driving and his hand picked opponents and his treatment of trainers with your mates down the pub but to do it here where we have a clue - the criticism needs balance - everything Khan is meant to be guilty of - others have been worse - but you never heard the bile about them either.

Khan will now stand and fall on his own merits with Golden Boy - This is more a risk to his health and his legacy than staying with Warren surely? He could have defended that WBA title at the reebok and the MEN ala Calazghe and Hatton but with Golden Boy he is going to have to earn his keep or he will be out on his ear - thus he will be more active and against more dangerous fighters if past Golden Boy promotions are anything to go by. Will he succeed? I have no idea to be honest - it will be fun to watch though.

As for the racism issue regarding Khan - are you saying it doesn't exist at all?

Christ - he can't do right for doing wrong - one minute, Khan is a wanker because he treats his trainers like poop and now you are whining because he says hello to his trainer in public! How dare he! The outrage!

Side up with the enemy? What is this? An invasion of the malvinas? Jesus Christ! So Khan says hello to his trainer and he gets booed off the bloody stage by his own people - is that really your answer? It doesn't matter the fact that Khan is mates with Hatton also and said hello to him - he dares say hello to Freddie Roach - his own trainer - and he is now Vidkun Quisling.

What did you want Khan to do - ignore Freddie Roach because there are a load of pissed up Brits who are gonna take offence?

He gazumped a lot of names to fight Koletnik? Weren't you one of the geniuses who picked Koletnik to thrash Khan?

As playing politics with race and stuff - thats because it exists - you know what I mean? :shame:
Christ? Do you mean Allah ?

You keep beating the drum about racism Carlos, insinuating that others and myself are ignorant ?

"I've got a friend of a friend who is Asian, so i'm not racist...but" - i'm sorry but that is not me son.

I live and breath multiculturalism. My partner is mixed race and so is my son, my own flesh and blood so don't paint me in that manner pal. My dad immigrated here. My user name is not a nod towards Bazooka Gomez... my name is Gomez. But i'm i'm as British as they come, my grandad had chunks blown out of him in WW2 by the japs, whilst assisted by the Gurkha's in Burma.

He did that for freedom of speech...

And if i think Amir Khan Ltd is a pile of poop then i will bloody well say so.

It has sod all to do with his colour. Anyone who reads my posts know i'm not a fan of Calzaghe's record either.

I'm a boxing fan first and foremost..not a 'business fan' and could not care a poop which fighter brings the most money/minimum risk.

I just want to see legit fights between boxers who deserve it. And that is the basis for my whole argument.

You see where i'm coming from ? don't try to pigeon hole anyone displeased with these developments as someone with some sort of sub-agenda.
See, this is your problem - what has Allah got to do with it? Do you worship Allah? I don't! So why would I take Allah's name in vain? Why have you brought up Allah?

So excuse me if I think you are ignorant! :TU:

So because you have a mixed race partner and have a mixed race son you can't be a bigot? Is that what you are saying? Just tell me one thing though - all the things you accuse Khan of - can you accuse most top flight boxers doing at least one or more of those things? If you can - why have this unhealthy obsession about Amir Khan? Like with Spud - no-one is saying you have to like him but remember where you are - you are not with your mates down the pub who haven't a clue - you are on a boxing forum where we know whats going on so be prepared for your bile to be challenged, that is all.

If Amir Khan is a pile of poop then he wouldn't have won an olympic silver medal and outboxed and battered a very good champion who you said would wipe the floor with Khan? Can't be that shit can he?

Your Grandad probably was sent to Burma for the same reason my Grandad was in the sky in a Lancaster Bomber over Germany - because somebody called him up to do it. I am sure Amir Khans grandparents fought Britians fight - the British-Indian army that fought in world war 2 was the biggest volunteer army ever assembled in the history of mankind with 2 million troops - and I am sure the descendants of that army that fought in Burma, North Africa and Italy FOR GREAT BRITIAN would want their grandkids and great grandkids to be able to say they are British and have freedom over their career without being booed, without being called a traitor and without having their loyalties questioned, especially when they have made the contributions Amir Khan has made.

And if you don't want me to pigeon hole you as bigot - stop bringing up Allah where there is no need to. :TU:
