Jesus wept, 5th fight and he is fighting Skelton. Even at a weeks notice that is pretty fearless, not only that but this Pulev guy was supposed to be fighting Oleg Platov another experienced (well more experienced anyway) guy.
Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
He beat the fighter who beat Brewster in his 3d fight this Bulgarian being pushed.
Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
Credit due for matching their prospects tough.
Compare to the early career or, eg Kell Brook.

Here's a look at him.

He looks decent to me, seem to have a more relaxed style than alot of the east european heavies.
quick puncher as well.

theres a conyeyor belt of half decent lugs based in germany
i think its the fact hes gone in soo deep at such a novice level that makes him interesting

Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
You can see from that video he's fought alot of international fights in the amateurs. That was his debut and he didn't look to have any nerves , and did a professional job in there. No messing around.

Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
Sure are, in recent years the young German based guys like Bidenko, Platov and Dimitrenko have built their reputations by knocking suh par opposition over often and then finding themselves rated and in line for eliminators. In Dimitrenko's case he managed to get an eliminator against Krasniqui and then lost his final eliminator. In Bidenko's case he didnt quite make it and in Platov's case he should have lost to Danny Williams and disappeared after that.funso banjo baby wrote:theres a conyeyor belt of half decent lugs based in germany

Thankfully there are now a lot of these German based guys that you mention who are willing to take risks, and I mean huge risks. This Pulev chap is one, the Finnish boxer Rob Helenius is fighting Lamon Brewster next, thats his 11th fight!!!!

He won the European title in Liverpool in 2008 and I saw him give Cammarelle his toughest fight of the tournament in the quarters at the Worlds in Milan last year. Camarelle must be just about the best heavyweight in the world, amateur or pro.
It would be nice to see David Price getting this kind of push. Pulev was beaten easily by Islam Timurziev at the Europeans in 2006 and Price flattened Timurziev at the Olympics.
Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
Who do you think would be the right sort of next opponent for Price? I'd love to see him fighting the likes of McDermott, Sexton and Chisora before the end of this year.RLewis wrote:Old bones Ian wrote:Here's a look at him.

I also wonder whether Frank will have him on a much slower progression than Hayemaker would have had Setanta not folded.
Be interesting to see how much Skelton has left, the Rogan war was a while back now and he has always pretty much got by on his fitness and heart. Could be a very tough end to his career if being an opponent in Germany is the route he is heading.

But at the same time I recall Cammarelle stopping Price pretty emphatically at the europeans and the olympics.RLewis wrote:Old bones Ian wrote:Here's a look at him.

Thats a bit much
Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
Sad to see Skelton taking this fight - wish him well but I would like to see him retired now. He looked "missing" against Piaetta.
I was hoping Chisora was his own swangsong.

Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
Bedford Bear Matt Skelton cashes in on his fitness when he mauls with 4-0 Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in Germany this Saturday.
Skelton takes the eight-rounder at short notice for the seemingly reluctant Oleg Platov of Ukraine but had been in training to face unbeaten Finchley prospect Derek Chisora over 10 rounds on a big bill at Wembley next month. Chisora then got a nod to step up against British heavyweight champion Danny Williams on the same bill, so this nod is probably just as welcome for big Matt.
While the 43-year-old grizzly has obviously seen better days, he may not be ready for a baiting just yet, particularly from such an inexperienced rival as Pulev, although Pulev enjoys plenty of top-class sparring out of the heavyweight-mad Germany, where he is promoted, and was a long-time amateur star in his days in the Bulgarian army. He is a novice but not a novice, if that makes sense.
However, Skelton took a bit of a pasting against southpaw giant Francesco Pianeta in his last fight in September, also in Germany, and before that was punished and also stopped by Belfast thumper Martin Rogan. The Germans clearly think he is there for the taking – but does Skelton, who will plough into the talented 28-year-old in usual rough-and-tumble style? His experience alone as a former WBA title challenger gives him a shout as does his strength over the eight rounds.
While boxing history is littered with ex-prospects who were moved too soon, I have a feeling that Skelton has developed a bit of a defeatist mentality. Reluctantly, and quite sadly, one has to side with the boy-man Pulev.

Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
this guy must be good if he's in with skelton after just four fights, or maybe there is some little agreement behind the scenes we dont know of.

Re: Skelton gights in germany Saturday.
theres a world of difference between chagaev v krence ..and helenius v gammer
sprotty, williams and skelton are big players abroad
look at the upsets they've caused over the last 3 years
dettweiler, hoffman (robbed), platov, konstantin watsisname
i go for a skelton win
