He did kill the guy, read about it in Boxing Monthly a while back i think. It was a 2nd degree charge due, i believe, to a self-defence claim from Hoye. It was either him or the other guy.Not 100% sure though

How about the bloke Michael Gomez killed? what was the story behind that? I hear it was the reason he changed his surname to Gomez.

I just thought his second name was "Armstrong" and that there was someone already boxing under the moniker of Michael Armstrong. So he chose the name of his all time favourite boxer Wilfredo Gomez
i know the last bit of that is true, never heard the first bit, though there are other fighters called Michael armstrong.

Yes, Michael Armstrong was the fighter in question - also from Manchester and also British super-featherweight champion.

All true, chose the name gomez due to another fighter being called michael armstrong. Rumours around manchester are that he did kill the guy during a drunken fist fight, lets be real.... do you think a pi55ed michael gomez would stop giving you a hiding, would a sober michael gomez stop giving you a hiding??

All being said gomez for me is the most reformed boxer in british boxing... gomez barera 2005.... Gomez KO10 :TU:
