who should green fight now?
Re: who should green fight now?
It would result in a uniting of the WBC and IBO titles if nothing else.
Could be a good fight for Danny. He is 3 inches taller than Zsolt.

hopefully.Brute wrote:Whatever you think of the IBO Green is their Cruiserweight champion, so has to be prepared to defend against 200 pounders.
it's like pac. he's the WBO welter champ, and clottey has to come DOWN in weight. it's daft, because pac is a world welter champ.
i would love to see green challenge cunningham. it would be an interesting choice, as cunningham is a road warrior, and despite his quality, a quite light hitter. he doesn't hit like a cruiserweight.
Re: who should green fight now?
sadly zsolt just vacated. it would have been a good chance for both fighters. perhaps a short sighted move by erdei and his team.Brute wrote:It would result in a uniting of the WBC and IBO titles if nothing else.

then again, erdei would have been forced to defend vs much bigger men krys wlod and herbie hide (a former WBO heavyweight champ), and erdei is just too small for that.
it's a shame fragomeni isn't still WBC champ, as he's a small, undersized cruiser. he's also very exciting and frago v green would be an absolute war.
frago has been in so many good fights, vs wlod, vs erdei, vs haye. i've never seen green in a tremendous war. this is a shame, given his aggressive fighting style.

Look up Green VS Jason Delisle, they were both great fights.Autobarn wrote:sadly zsolt just vacated. it would have been a good chance for both fighters. perhaps a short sighted move by erdei and his team.Brute wrote:It would result in a uniting of the WBC and IBO titles if nothing else.

I think he vacated that belt...Lethaleigh76 wrote:Zolt Erdei, for the WBC CRUISER, maybe.....

Green must focus on maximizing his earning potential over the remaining fights of his career, 3-4 fights with big names (no aussies), providing he keeps winning, then a possible rematch with that mouth yapping idiot Mundine.
Afterall are people forgetting the reason he came out of retirement? To fight Mundine again.

Re: who should green fight now?
True, no title is needed but I think Ross holds the Commonwealth title. I think that is worth more than the IBO title, just as the win over RJJ is worth mor than the IBO title.Autobarn wrote:it would be interested. i don't think they need a title. right now, "interesting" fights appear to be the only ones out there for green. ross v green would be intriguing, but they wouldn't need a title, with green holding a win over jones jr, and ross having won the contender.dberry wrote:Good call, I haven't seen Ross fight but looking at his record, he's won contender, stopped Laurence Tuausa and won the Commonwealth title! ross, or perhaps jirov.
i would drool over green-cunningham, and cunningham indeed is a road warrior. however i think cunningham is a bit too big, fast and tough for green at this stage. i get the feeling that green wants to cash out. i mean, this guy pulled out of a fight with (garay?), saying he'd had enough of boxing.
Who was the last Aussie to hold the Commonwealth title?
I recon it was Kevin Kelly at juinior middle weight, taken off fellow Aussie Leo Young Junior.
Re: who should green fight now?
^^^ jackson Asiku last held a commonwealth belt and before him i think King Soliman.
I have to disagree that the commonwealth is of more value than the IBO, the IBO is gaining a lot of momentum in boxing, and as stated people consider the commonwealth belt to hard in terms of geography to fight for, because only the british seem to fight for it, this is very sad.
The IBO is bargaining chip and can be unified anywhere in the world. Still i don't like the idea of having that many belts.

Yeah but Mundine has recently said it still has to be on his terms, he's forgotten that he's a forgotten boxer, and Green is now the new flavor.whyohbee wrote:Green must focus on maximizing his earning potential over the remaining fights of his career, 3-4 fights with big names (no aussies), providing he keeps winning, then a possible rematch with that mouth yapping idiot Mundine.

If Green doesn't fight Mundine which i use to be desperate to see, i wouldn't care....For mine theres no chance ever of Mundine beating Green at LT heavy and above, none what so ever.

Im impressed in the way Green has forged on with his career, almost thumbing his nose at Mundine by going to heights Mundine will never scale. To fight someone that could potentially knock him out and to actually defend a title AND GET A KO!... lol When will Mundine ever do all of that within a few fights?
Re: who should green fight now?
Nice one Hounddawg,
, I never new Soliman held the Commonwealth title, I had to look it up as I didn't believe it. I never new about Jackson Asiku either, I remember seing one of his first fights on a kickboxing show at Crown Casino years ago.
Re: who should green fight now?
Don't let that worry you. A friend of mine grizzled about Sam being called an Australian until I pointed out that he was born in Melbourne. He did not realise how many native born Australians have Egyptian ancestry. An American idiot asked me how Sam was not Jewish with a name like Sam Soliman. Coptic Christians were an unknown to him.dberry wrote:Nice one Hounddawg,, I never new Soliman held the Commonwealth title, I had to look it up as I didn't believe it. If Sam had played Australian Rules or Rugby League at club level instead of representing Australia proudly overseas in the toughest sport on earth people would have known everything about him.

IBO poops all over the Commonwealth Title baby.dberry wrote:True, no title is needed but I think Ross holds the Commonwealth title. Action Jackson was our last Commonwealth Champ I reckon.

hmmm... perhaps I should have read dawgs posts first, he seemed to sum it up pretty well :P
Re: who should green fight now?
the hpkins fight appeared to collapse due to hopkins, who simply cannot negotiate with bigger fighters it seems (see toney, adamek and green examples).
however, i get the feeling green might have too many demands for some opponents. i bet if he fights a genuine cruiserweight champ, that he insists on the opponent coming in at some catchweight such as less than 190-pounds. that, and requiring them to come to australia. i wonder, with a couple of good fights now out of sight, will green be too difficult to deal with, will green overestimate his place in the market?
i hope this doesn't happen. i mean green's no manny pac. to be honest i'm sick of pac fighting weight weakened welters in catchweight bouts.
tell me what these demands are. i have seen no evidence whatsoever of this.
u r phukin kidding about green insisting another champ fight him at catchweight. i have never ever heard this being asked before.
and u r having a go at green wanting the opponent to come to australia. well they have to choose one or the other don't they ffs. have u thought that it may be much more beneficial financially for the opponent to come here?
and u r having a go at pacman now, even though he has climbed 8 divisions or something. if it isn't for a title then if it is ok for a fighter to move up in weight then it is ok for a fighter to move down.

Re: who should green fight now?
I think it's a fact that if you want a massive payday 2million plus and you fight around 175+ and are a known boxer....Perth Australia is the place to come. No one could dispute the fact that Green offers massive money to anyone with the balls to come down under and fight.
Most of the fighters in the top 5 of there division are after money, there should be no excuse if people are offered a fight with Green considering his even further popularity since beating Roy.

Re: who should green fight now?
true brute, but he could do a mundine & vacate. although lookin a bit closer to that division he would most likely beat the majority of them comfortably. 10kg's is a lot though
Re: who should green fight now?
Green has the height and reach of a Cruiserweight. He could probably muscle up a stone and a half.
Re: who should green fight now?
Weight is good, if it's natural muscle, added weight, in the form of muscle or fat is a hinderance. No need to "bulk up" just to be as heavy as your opponent. I fought every thing from juinior middle to super heavy(whilest still a middle) in the am's, by far my toughest opponent, hardest puncher, did the most damage to me(shatterd nose, fractured skull, broken ribs!) was the only guy I fought that was lighter than me. If Green's comfertabl weighing in at 82 and is punching that hard, he should stay at that weight, even when fighting 90kg guys.

Rumour floating around Green's next opponent is Paul Briggs

You can be honest around here mate, this opponent of which you speak.......... it was the missus right?
Completely agree with you though, Green wont jeopardize his power by staying at his comfortable weight, he has great technique for that. Wouldnt like to see him risk any speed/stamina putting on unnecessary muscle.
