As Sligobhoy already stated Duddy has had major trainer and promoter problems over the past few years. In the Lyell fight he was caught between two different styles. He was stiff and to be honest it didn't look like he had a clue what he was doing in the ring - thats one of the reasons he went back to Keitt to get back to his original boxing style. I think you should call it a day on this one by the wayMrBoxingUK2 wrote:maybe your right about duddy beating lyell 2nd time round. but he shouldn't have come close to losing to him in the first fight

Oi!Terry D wrote:Duddy won't make it in my opinion, nowt to do with him being Irish and more to do with the fact that he's lacking what it takes for the top level. I thought you got my lot to tarmac your drive!?!?

I thank god for a lot of things - Putting Duddy back on track isn't that high on the list though. I'd slot it in just after world peace.

I'll have you know that Bono has been campaigning on the Derry Destroyers behalf and put Darfur, Haiti and third world debt all on the back burned to ensure that Uncle Bob gives the boy a chance to cash out.Twinkle Toes wrote:I thank god for a lot of things - Putting Duddy back on track isn't that high on the list though. Terry said he isnt "top level". Depends what you consider top level. Can he win a world title? I think he can actually. It might be a tough ask but I give him a fair chance against Sebastian Sylvester and actually advised that he should have fought Sylvester for the European title in 2008 instead of facing Walid Schmicet.
It just gets on my tits the amount of people that think its open season on Duddy because he hasnt got the defensive skills of Mayweather.
Sure its easy to dismiss Duddy after the performance against Walid and his loss to Lyell but I havent given up on him and will tune into his fights to support him. I am convinced that the majority of the people that call him a hype job and a fraud have never actually seen him fight and couldn't pick him out of a police line up.
P.S. Good tarmaccing rates available, just fire me off a PM.

Whilst I appreciate your good humour & sportsmanship, my somewhat vituperative response was inspired by the O/P's hyperbolic & frankly insane tone & topic.slapbangwhallop wrote: I'll have you know that Bono has been campaigning on the Derry Destroyers behalf and put Darfur, Haiti and third world debt all on the back burned to ensure that Uncle Bob gives the boy a chance to cash out.

I apologise if I went overboard in my reaction & cast too many aspersions on the fighting talents of the mighty Duddster, but if I made a thread thanking the deity of my choice because, say, John McDermott beat a clubfighter, & later expressed the opinion that someone's disregard for the flabby one's talents were in some way indicative of racism, I would deserve & expect a fair bit of flak for it.
Beat me to it.TerryD wrote: Nowt wrong with that. Throw him in with Lee, as he isn't going to the top either. May as well bang out a stadium in Ireland by putting them in with one another. I'd travel/pay to watch it! As for picking him out of a police line. Look for the lad with two black eyes, a cut, a nosebleed and one very annoyed trainer. Simple!

Re: Duddy back on track thank God, and two new dates slated.
I am not trying to, although admittedly I am succeeding in, coming across as a one man John Duddy fan club, I am well aware of the fighters limitations and capabilities - therein lies much of the reason for my support. The writing was well and truly on the wall after the Yori Boy Campas fight when Duddys defensive or lack thereof was patently obvious for all to see.Datsue wrote:Whilst I appreciate your good humour & sportsmanship, my somewhat vituperative response was inspired by the O/P's hyperbolic & frankly insane tone & topic.slapbangwhallop wrote: I'll have you know that Bono has been campaigning on the Derry Destroyers behalf and put Darfur, Haiti and third world debt all on the back burned to ensure that Uncle Bob gives the boy a chance to cash out.

But not long after that the McLoughlin brothers tried to tighten up on his defence and introduce a new style, trainers and regime. It didnt work, Duddy's not that fighter and turned in some awful performances trying to be a fighter that he isn't.
Granted my title of the have strayed into hyperbole but you can blame that on the advanced hour and the relief at seeing Duddy do what he is supposed to do.
As for the Irish middleweight conundrum - here is my take
Macklin > Duddy > Lee > Moore (James) > Sinclair > O'Sullivan > Fitzgerald > Long

Speaking of Irish middleweights - does anyone have a clue where Simon O'Donnell is or what he is up to?

Duddy needs to get on with fighting a decent name and cashing in while he still has the chance. He's never going to win a title or anything like that. He's just not good enough. He should have fought someone like Chavez Jr. or Lee by now, or cashed out against Pavlik.

Re: Duddy back on track thank God, and two new dates slated.
In my opinion he's good enough to beat Sebastian Sylvester or at least has the style to upset the German and take a decision as long as someone put enough money in front of him to have the fight in the US or Ireland.glahn wrote:Duddy needs to get on with fighting a decent name and cashing in while he still has the chance. There is no point in him fighting Lee yet - that fight will always be there. He was going to fight JCCJ on St Patricks Day this year but JCCJ failed a drugs test.
To a large degree Duddy career hasnt gone as well as we would have liked it due to matters out of his hands.
Re: Duddy back on track thank God, and two new dates slated.
I don't really care how far he goes, I just love watching him fight, I suppose it would be good to see him pick up a belt though.
Re: Duddy back on track thank God, and two new dates slated.
bit like Pawel Wolak... so what if he never takes over the world? But Duddy's high tide was against Campas. He's tried to be clever since then and he looks uncomfortable.banjo wrote:I don't really care how far he goes, I just love watching him fight, I suppose it would be good to see him pick up a belt though.
Re: Duddy back on track thank God, and two new dates slated.
Arum wants to feed Duddy to his own super-hype job Chavez Jr. But Chavez has that drug problem in Nevada, so Arum wants to keep Duddy winning to build the fight up.
