Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
There were 8 fights on the card tonight and Sky show only 2.
Where were the highlights of McGuire, Carslaw, McArthur, Wale etc.
No disespect to McAllister or Savage, but surely we could have seen just a couple of rounds of the others in action, or were they that poor?
Whose call is it, the promotor or the sky producer?

Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
Sky Call the shots !!
Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?

Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
McLevy & McElhinny were both good bouts and a good crowd stayed behind to watch them, which was really good to see.Noelsy wrote:yes they could have Mcarthur v barret & some more of the undercard there was still bouts going on at 11.30 after mcallister guff Mclevy & Mcelhinney where both on after that
Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
I respect all fighters, but he really is ordinary. Look what John Murray did to him in what was one of Murray's less impressive performances.leforge wrote:Yes but main fight was poop! Mcaalister at ebu no 3 a joke! If he fights rees next he lose inside the distance imo!
Sells tickets though so I'd be shocked if he was unleashed on Rees or Murray again just yet. To me the best name on his record is that Mutu guy that did Mutley a while back.
Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
Didn't they even show Wale v Callaghan? I went to bed in the middle of the Savage-Reid fight and am just watching the repeat now.
It's entirely up to Sky. The thing is, these shows aren't cheap, they've gone all the way up to Glasgow so it's better value for them and customers surely if they show more action. It doesn't cost them anymore - they record and commentate on everything (up to the main event) anyway.
As I've said, 8-11 would be a good slot and we could have some live undercard action.

Unfortunatly, commonwealth title defences against unknown Africans usually are.leforge wrote:Yes but main fight was poop!
Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
That has been the fly in Sky's ointment. I was really behind their policy of no rubbish titles (rejecting the days of the WBU) but unfortunately the Commonwealth belt has been terribly abused. Some awful matches. One big problem is the difficulty in regulating the African commissions.whicker wrote:Unfortunatly, commonwealth title defences against unknown Africans usually are.leforge wrote:Yes but main fight was poop!

The opponents seem to be choosen more or less at random. Would they have a "title reign" of their own if one happened to win?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:That has been the fly in Sky's ointment. The very fact that it happens so rarely (the opponent wins) tends to prove how poor these contests are as televised "main events."
They have become "hometown boy" V foreign import fights, certainly not legitimate title fights.
That said, an upcoming Hatton show has Gary Buckland V Sam Rukundo (a Swedish Ugandan) as a Commonwealth eliminator. If Rukundo were to win, and then come back here and challenge for the Commonwealth belt in the future, that would be somewhat more credible.

i agree that the time slot would be better at 8, they should use the sysem itv use.
but saying that, im just glad there is boxing on the tele.

Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
I didn't think McAllister was that bad.........what is bad is the quality of Sky's shows.....Yet another meaningless, unexciting Sky show.
The channel's worse than Eurosport, but they actually have the cheek to charge £15 a month. Sky just don't seem to care about boxing at the moment, it's only worth buying if you like football....

Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
That card last night was rubbish. I have alot of respect for Mc Allister at the end for being 100% honest and admitting the fight was not good unlike that fool anthony small
Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
Sky only have a 2 hour slot, so whatever they fit in within the time, they can, if 2 fights go the distance, then your not gonna see anything of the undercard, but now with both Franks websites, you get to see the undercards (what was filmed by sky)
or you can buy the DVDs from me if I have filmed the show!!

I agree that Rees probably beats McAllister but he has improved under Dave Coldwell his last 3 performances have been very good albeit against poor opponants but you can only beat whats put in front of you

Yeah, thanks for the offer.ERIC GUY wrote:Sky only have a 2 hour slot, so whatever they fit in within the time, they can, if 2 fights go the distance, then your not gonna see anything of the undercard, but now with both Franks websites, you get to see the undercards (what was filmed by sky)

I'd rather see some of the undercard action via the channel I subscribe to at great cost...
Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
seems like a daft fight....how about mcallister v thai lightweight saddam kietyongyuth? the kid is 19-0 (15KOs) but was down twice in his last fight. no need for a title, just get a good fight on for the fans.

Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
McAllister had his chance as a live televised headliner and stunk the place out. He should not be featured as a headliner on Sky again. This should also go for fighters like Haskins and Broadhurst amongst others. It's an entertainment business and everybody watching, whether live or on TV , have paid to watch. Saying 'I'll be better next time' isn't enough. Sky have to show more quality control.
Re: Sky Friday Fight Night - Who is responsible?
People with Setanta Ireland had a great boxing weekend - a fantastic win for Magee, a win against the press predictions that I read. A better fight in the first round than SKY's 36 rounds of championship boxing in 2010. F*** me, SKY has started 2010 with a dire hatrick - I mean the fights and not the trio of experts!
Thanks to all those who emailed the Setanta show - we had a laugh, never polished a single turd and gave the RTE show on Feb 13th a big, big plug. It was like the old days!
Adios.

Well, true.Buncey wrote:F*** me, SKY has started 2010 with a dire hatrick - I mean the fights and not the trio of experts!
Napa fight was OK, but not riveting.
Likewise the Dolan Norton fight.
Average at best.
But then, in sport that can happen sometimes.. not all events can be crackers.
Thats why they have SUPPORT bouts...... if only Sky would show then!!!!
To base the entire show around a single live fight is farcical.

Any news on more shows, or is it too early to say yet and dependent on the response.Buncey wrote:People with Setanta Ireland had a great boxing weekend - a fantastic win for Magee, a win against the press predictions that I read.
