Would need to see the fight but on paper it looks a tremendous result. Cant help feeling though that Skelton is perhaps cashing out as a Euro journeyman, ala Sprott and Francis. Is the Bedford Bear's heart still in it??...

dont think you can question skeltons heart, the guy's done great with he's style @ his age as it is a young fighters style really,& against rogan he showed he's legs are gone.
funny the work a fighter gets once in decline :shame:

Seconded.
Unfortunately Skelton doesn't have the survival instincts or defensive skills of those two. If this is the route he is heading down he could end up taking some nasty beatings.

Agreed he seems to be going into a journeyman I would like to see him fight some of the up and coming Brits, as he still is a good test for prospects

Pulev is a good prospect.

I would put my house on him and Helenius comfortably beating any British Heavyweight right now.

Fair one. They both have massive ambition too by the looks of it and that is to be commended.

Just watched the fight. Skelton came in a little heavy, but did ok in the 1st round when he bulled his way inside, he can't throw as many punches as he used to though. 2nd round started well enough for him, but from about the midway point Pulev started establishing his jab, and landed a couple of sharp right hands.
3rd round, early on Skelton was caught with a jab to his stomach this bothered him and he turned away a bit saying it was low, but seemd a good shot to me and the ref just waved him back into the fight. Pulev up his workrate now and bothered Skelton with some heavy shots to head and body. Skelton was still throwing the odd hayemaker back, but his punches now lack speed. Skelton was blowing hard by the midway point of the round, and Pulev looked relaxed.
Skelton was still coming forward in the final minute , and tried to find a big punch, but Pulev picked him off well. Even giving Skelton a bit of a stare at the end of the round.
4th round started out ok for Skelton, he was still walking forward and landed a couple of shots, but Pulev was very confident in his skills and moved on his toes for a bit, landing his jab and a few right hands. Then again at the mid point of the round Skelton started blowing hard, Pulev had him on the ropes with a couple of punches, then landed a jab type of punch to the stomach and Skelton went down on all fours, he wasn't that hurt but just couldn't get himself up and was counted out.

Nice recap Ian :TU:
It doesnt sound like the Skelton of old to me; getting done with body shots.
Still, there is money to be made as a name Euro journey man so you cant blame him for making a few extra quid towards the end of his career..

Thats always going to be the problem with short notice fights at Heavy- sounds like Skelton wasn;t really fully conditioned.

Check out the fight now on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzRlxQckOGY

Skeltom at 43 is too old & too dispirited - the spark & confidence is gone and the crowd-pleasing puncher who swarmed & mauled Jacklord Jacobs, Mike Holden, Julius Francis, Michael Sprott, Keith Long, John McDermott, Danny Williams and Paulo Vidoz is but a memory.

Sad times indeed but a very good career - won the British, Commonwealth, and European belts, challenged a classy fighter for the heavyweight title, and completely cleaned up the British scene. Deserves to be proud. Good speaker too, would make a strong fight analyst - get yourself a suit & tie Matt.

Kudos.

It was a sad ending really, he basically pulled himself out of the fight. The finishing punch didn't look that hard, as i said it was more of a jab to the stomach.

I hope Matt hangs up his gloves now. He overachieved in his career and can look back with pride on what he won. I'd hate to see him get beat by Fury or the like.

Looks quite handy does Pulev.

Nice jab, a decent straight right and reasonably quick.
