Might be hard. KOing some mugger is far different to fighting a World Champion.dan h wrote:http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/201 ... sport.html

Paul would know. He has fought Adamek twice and lost by MD both times i think. Adamek is a much more accomplished champion than GreenBrute wrote:Might be hard. KOing some mugger is far different to fighting a World Champion.dan h wrote:http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/201 ... sport.html

So his eyes are better and he can fight again? Excellent. (It was his eyes that were the problem wasn't it? Gave him balance problems and depth perception if I remember correctly)
It'll be good to see Briggs fight again and Briggs vs Green is a fight I've wanted to see for years. Shame it didn't happen earlier.

What a match up. Should of happened 5 yrs ago, Good on Paul, i think he should have a warm up fight though he would have alot of ring rust, i think Danny would have the edge.

Paul's last fight was three years ago. That could be his biggest problem.

Good on Briggs. Green/Briggs would be a very exciting fight if it happens, and very good for Australian boxing to see two well-liked, world-class men mixing it up.
Briggs has surprised me before. He left Thai boxing after a very bad KO loss and years later, when I heard that he had taken up boxing I was a bit skeptical. He proved me wrong with a very successful boxing career and thus I won't nay say this comeback.

Most people dream of winning tattslotto and bying a mansion and a flash car, I dreamt of winning tatts and paying these two guys to fight each other. Then Paul Briggs retired and took my dream with him.
Now he's comming back and there' even talk of him and Green fighting each other in his first couple of fights back! This is going to be awesome, watching these two talented tough guys punch the crap out of each other is all my prayers answerd.
I don't care who wins, I don't care if it's for a title, just so long as they fight, I now have a dream again.

pretty exciting stuff!
Re: Paul Briggs returning to the ring - possibly to fight Danny
Briggs in his prime demolishes Green!
Re: Paul Briggs returning to the ring - possibly to fight Danny
my mate told me about this post yesterday, and i was opposed to the idea straight away. i consider myself pretty new to all this. only been following boxing for about 4 yrs now. i am a huge fan of both guys. i just dont see the point of this fight right now. danny should be looking for new and bigger challenges after his win over RJJ, he's opened up opportunities that he never had b4(eg almost landing bhop) so what would be the point in going to a guy that hs been retired for 3 years? and only here in australia.
and as for hurricane, is it really a good idea to step up to someone like danny after being retired for so long, great for him if he manages to win, but if he gets beat bad what did it achieve for him? he doesnt deserve to have that happen. good on paul for wanting to come back, but just not a great idea(especially if his eyes were the prob as previous mentioned) to take on a high level fighter.
this fight would have been EXCELLENT 3 - 5 yrs ago, prolly a better event than green - bumdine.
if green takes this fight i think it will make him not much better than mundine either(doing the same thing except for a better quality opponent than the man chooses.
i really just think there a better options for both guys, and this could possibly be a bit of a flop. dont want to see either waste any time. they have limited fights and would rather see the best of both guys.....

Re: Paul Briggs returning to the ring - possibly to fight Danny
With Hopkins out of the equation (for now) Green might not actually have that many options available to him, especially if he wants to give the Aussie fans another fight. Briggs provides the name and credibilty to stage another great Australian event. It does sound like Briggs will have a comeback fight first and then assess things from there. If you ask me this sounds like he is going about it the right way. It wasn't too long ago that Green was "retired" himself...
Re: Paul Briggs returning to the ring - possibly to fight Danny
good point marlin, but green was only out for limited time, and had a few fights back b4 fighting rjj, does that mean we'll have to wait like 9 months b4 these 2 get it on? surely green could find someone in the top 10 cruisers to get out here and fight????
Re: Paul Briggs returning to the ring - possibly to fight Danny
as much as I have wanted to see this fight happen, I am very apprehnsive. Green is in top form. Whilst i know opponents are limited at this stage you would think Briggsy would fight at least one warm up, giving Green a bout against a formidable/named opponent such as Tarver. I dont know if punishing a club fighter in a warm up for Briggs is going to get him back in shape, but good luck to him.
Green v Briggs bring it on. I think the result will be Green by TKO. If it was a few year back I would have gone Green on points,,,,but I am bias. And even better, it keeps Mundine out of the boxing spotlight !!!

Which fight did Briggs have a very bad KO loss in Thai Boxing?keyboard warrior wrote:Good on Briggs. Green/Briggs would be a very exciting fight if it happens, and very good for Australian boxing to see two well-liked, world-class men mixing it up.

I seen the Jomhod fight, which i thought Briggs was winning until the leg kicks from Jomhod discovered Briggs was weak/injured. In this fight he also had to lose 8-9 kilos in a couple of weeks to make weight for superwelter, a weight he shouldn't have fought at.
I always thought Briggsy was a boxer trying to be a Thai boxer, as he attacks were always hands, with a few high kicks, he was also very young in terms of western society for a thai boxer.
Re: Paul Briggs returning to the ring - possibly to fight Danny
You must all forget the warrior Paul Briggs, his chin is 100% cement, he has devastating power and a ironwill to boot.
I'm in the sport for blokes like these 2, say all you will about inactivity, but stylistically theres none better here or abroad for both fighters.
I admit i was originally shocked with the rumor, but this fight was always mean't to happen, and if it does only a strong test for Briggs comeback should suffice to prepare Briggs for Armageddon.
Green is my favorite fighter, but the last 3 blokes he fought could of all been in the same ring at the same time and Paul Briggs still would have given Green a tougher time.

Re: Paul Briggs returning to the ring - possibly to fight Danny
Was it Ruiz or Drews who put him down? I also seem to remember that Paul Smallman either put Danny down or came close. They both have chins that are no infallable, making this an even more interesting contest.Hounddawg wrote:You must all forget the warrior Paul Briggs, his chin is 100% cement, he has devastating power and a ironwill to boot.
