What aggrivates me the most about Gomez is this head/head thing that he does. I actually think he should actually be called up for the BBBoC for it. I mean, if something did kick off in the press conference there would be heavy fines and punishment all round and doing that is asking for trouble.
I don't think he is that aggressive, alot of it is an act and its actually quite boring - so why do it.
If Tyson ever did that, there would be interegations and investigations galore.
While I am posting on Gomez, let me congratulate those who went for Alvarez also may I appologise to Sports Network for my earlier comments citing this as an easy victory for Michael. Got that one wrong.
I enjoyed the card, its a good thing that the most competitive match on paper (IMO) of the televised fights ended up the least competitive fight. I don't think there was much of a crowd, which is a pity because it was one of the most competitive bills in that arena for a long time.
Anyone see a shock on the cards with Michael Gomez tonight?

This was always on the cards, it was strange that Paul Dempsey called it a shocker. There was absolutely nothing shocking about this fight. I watched it in complete silence from beginning to end, feeling no emotion at all, all the way through.

I said it before in that thread, but last night really emphasised it. He would probably have been better getting stopped by a top tier guy, as not only would it likely have been a bit sooner than Friday's fight, he could say he reached the top of the tree in boxing. Imagine if something freakish happened and he actually won. All pipe dreams now though, as that fight at the weekend probably ended him.
What's he got to show his mates/kids when he's older (apart from his British successes)? What do you think he'd prefer: pulling out of his cabinet a cassette of him fighting a big name, US-based, genuine world class fighter, or a tape of him getting pummelled by a guy few had seen before the first bell, in a ghostly silent, barren arena? He'd have taken a beating in both cases, but what one would give him more happiness in later life? I'd bet fighting a top name in America would.
That chance is gone forever now, and I fear for Gomez post-boxing. As far as I can tell, he's one of those guys who as they go up in age, are on a downward spiral at the same time.
