Ike Ibeabuchi
Is he still in prison? The guy was a wrecking machine in the 90's...anyone know if he is out soon?
Re: Ike Ibeabuchi
Last I heard he indeed was still in prison, repeatedly denied parole. I think he also adamantly refuses to admit guilt and/or follow group therapy...
better forget about him, imho

Re: Ike Ibeabuchi
His next parole hearing is May 1st, 2012. Something for fight fans to look forward to.
Re: Ike Ibeabuchi
He could have done some serious damage in the Heavyweight division if he had of stayed out of trouble. If he gets out in 2012 he will be 39 - I reckon he will make a comeback to try and capture what he could have had but will fail miserably.

Re: Ike Ibeabuchi
Ike Ibeabuchi has become something of a myth in boxing. People swear up and down he was the next big thing, that had he not went insane believing demons were coming out of his air conditioner and brutally raping that woman, he could have made mince meat of Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and the other heavyweights on the scene at that time. Its sort of a shame boxing is a sport mainly built on 'What If' more so than any other. Unfortunately reality isn't built on such things. The mans psyche was more fragile than Golota's, his life outside the ring shows that. Had he not went to prison, he would have more than likely had a nervous breakdown and been derailed by a lesser heavyweight and been forgotten.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he has some accumulated brain damage in the emotional centers of his brain. He took a lot of clean leather for David Tua, who was knocking other elites stiff with the same shots. Not all brain damage cases in Boxing deal with Parkinson's and stuff. Hector Camacho is even crazier now than he was in the ring due to similar damage to his brain's emotional area, same with Riddick Bowe, who turned from a big teddy bear into an abusive husband and geneally malcontent over time. There's other cases as well so I'm sure the already oddball mental state of Ike surely wasn't helped any by engaging in a toe-to-toe war of attrition with one of the purely biggest punchers of all time.

Re: Ike Ibeabuchi
The difference was that Golota was doing strange things in the ring, losing fight after fight, while Ike was crazy outside the ring. Even if there is no way to prove he was the next "big thing", I am surprised as promising fighter as he was went to prison for such a long time (practically forever from boxing point of view). Was it that difficult to make a settlement with the prostitute he raped (which in reality could mean that she only didn't get payed), use his REAL mental problems as an excuse for the rest (mostly resisting arrest), and get something like 2-3 years?HomicideHenry wrote:The mans psyche was more fragile than Golota's, his life outside the ring shows that. I undestood Riddick Bowe stopped to be "Big Daddy" when he got to know he is not really daddy to all his children... I am not saying he hasn't got brain damage, but in this case it had to do more with other circumstances.Diamond WEAPON wrote:same with Riddick Bowe, who turned from a big teddy bear into an abusive husband (...)
