Lee Beard Leaves Hatton Promotions

Post by teddy007 »

Statement from the Hattons

Lee Beard has taken up a training appointment in America and will no longer be connected with Hatton Promotions Ltd, Ricky Hatton or Matthew Hatton.

Lee has strong family connections in America and we fully understand his wish to move out there.

As far as Ricky is concerned he has not made any decision as to who will be replacing Floyd Mayweather senior as his trainer and he will address this issue on his return from holiday.

Matthew Hatton will continue his training for his fight at Fenton Manor, Stoke on the 19 February under the wing of Bob Shannon.

In the meantime Ricky, Matthew and everyone in the Hatton Camp wish Lee every success for the future.

Seems strange that he would leave only 2 weeks out from Matt Hatton's next fight. Thought he might have hung on and finished that training camp..

Always a strange appointment/arrangement. But he seemed like a good guy. I presume as his wife (?) is American he is looking to relocate over there.

It must have a pretty sweet deal with the Hatton's though?

Wish him well in the US but how did he "do well" for them. No offence to Lee, and I might get shot down for this, but I dont see what he did to add anything to rickys game.

Matthew and a few other Hatton fighters. He didnt do a lot for Ricky but for others with Ricky he did quite well imo

Fair enough, take your word for it. I saw some flashy pad work, but I didnt see an improvement in either Hatton fighter under him (mathew lost to craig watson and looked terrible for one) and im not sure what he did for who. Wasnt he employed at first just to do pad work for mathew by billy graham or something? down to the fact he'd looked good training his kid, also isnt his background martial arts??

Nothing against the guy, and I suppose he must have something about him to be employed by a series of top pros

Dare I say I sometimes thought he was a bit of a yes man happy to be there?

Lee only took over Matthews training on his own after the Watson defeat.

Coleman also said to me last week that he has been with pretty much every trainer in the region and that Lee was by far the best.

What Lee is gonna do next in boxing could be amazing.

And he will be there on pure merit.

How can he walk out of a fighter 10 days before a fight? Hardly great thanks to Matthew Hatton, is it?

just to clarify, how many fights have you had at professional level and how many corners have you ran?

Terry D wrote:Fair play to him if he can get Guzman back on track after Floyd Senior derailed Guzman's career. Lee's a good pad man and the more fights you have the better a cornerman you become. Passion in the gym and keep it short and strong on the night in the corner. Think he'll do well over in America, especially without Floyd Senior in the corner/gym. Good luck to him.

Thought Bob was in line for a top job for a while now, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy and I hope he is given a chance and runs with it. A few people on Hatton's site are talking Richardson, it isn't about getting the latest big name, it is about getting someone who understands what the fighter is all about and working with their strengths. Bob is a top man and will do this, Joe Gallagher would do it also and they were always the front runners and will continue to be until the permanent trainer for Ricky Hatton is named. Richardson would be a complete and utter disaster in my opinion.

Brother Nazim isn't the best choice. Go for someone like joe goosen! When ricky talked about he picked floyd snr didn't he mention some coach from net York who was "highly reccomended". Can't remember his name but he wasn't one of the more well known trainers.

Shannon has worked with Barnes, Andy Morris... Kevin Anderson?

Is that pedigree going to be useful for bringing a former top operator like Hatton back into a world class fight?

I know the same thing was said about the former trainer, when everyone said 'who' - but didn't he ply his trade studying the likes of Roach in the wildcard and Mayweather in the Vegas gyms? thats some serious learning curve. He will have worked with Ricky Hatton, Joan Guzman and the USBA champion Tim Coleman.

IF they decide not to use a friendly face from Manchester, who else would be any good?

Poxon?

What about Farnell or McCracken ?

I sometimes think an absolutely brand new face is needed for these types of things.

God knows... i just want the comeback to be a successful, top drawer effort.

Goosen is a quality trainer.

His work with Corrales was excellent. Remember how Chico boxed his way to a verdict in the Casamayor rematch?

I reckon Buddy McGirt would also be a good choice for Hatton.

Don't care, don't care, don't care. Is it only me who has no interest in Ricky Hatton's next fight? The kid is done.
